The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of matter and materials, energy and environment and human health. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2100 people.

For use at the Swiss Light Source SLS and SwissFEL – two of the most advanced X-Ray radiation sources worldwide – the Photon Science Detector Group develops 1D and 2D high speed X-Ray detectors with frame rates of several kHz. Detectors developed within the Photon Science Detector Group equip most radiation sources in the world. For the calibration, optimization and further development of the Jungfrau Detector, a large multi megapixel, modular charge integrating detector system with single photon resolution, we are looking for aPostdoctoral FellowDetector Development Photon Science DivisionYour tasks

  • Work on the development of the Jungfrau pixel detector (testing of readout ASICs and modules, calibration and optimization of the system)

  • Participation in cutting edge X-Ray experiments with PSI and external scientists from the early planning phase to the data analysis and publication steps

  • Support of the detector system integration at beamlines in collaboration with IT groups

Your profileThe successful candidate should have a PhD degree in physics or electronics or related fields preferably in the field of silicon detector development. Experience in data analysis (with CERN root) and experience in synchrotron radiation instrumentation would be appreciated. Proficiency in C/C++ is also highly welcome.
