Inseriert am: 13.01.2020
The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of matter and materials, energy and environment and human health. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2100 people.

The mission of the magnet section concerns the maintenance and the repair of the magnets in the existing PSI accelerator facilities but also the design, the construction, the assembly and the magnetic qualification of the magnets for the PSI coming projects like the upgrade of the Swiss Light Source, SLS 2 planned for 2021–2024.

In this context we are looking for a

Magnet Engineerwith expertise in accelerator magnets and applied superconductivityYour tasksThe work will be part of the design and the qualification of the magnets (permanent, normal conducting and superconducting) for the upgrade of the Swiss Light Source, in particular for the superconducting super-bends.

  • The magnetic and thermo-mechanical design of the superconducting super -bends but also the design of permanent and electro-magnets for accelerator

  • The follow up of the production of the superconducting magnets

  • To perform the tests at cryogenic temperature of the superconducting magnets

  • The performance analysis at cryogenic temperature (power tests, magnetic measurements)

Your profileYou have an engineering diploma or a PhD degree in applied physics and a background in Multiphysics simulations (e.g. COMSOL, OPERA, Ansys). You have experience in applied superconductivity and superconducting magnets. Hands-on experience with the follow up of the production of magnet components is a clear asset. As a team-oriented and communicative person you enjoy working in an interdisciplinary group. You act independently, show initiative and are practice-oriented.
