Job Description


We are hiring a Specialist, Process Engineer within Global Engineering Solutions (GES) to support our Capital Project Portfolio. The Specialist will initially provide primary support to the Small Molecule line of business and is expected to develop and maintain technical knowledge in their respective area(s) of expertise. With a large volume and variety of capital project work in GES, this position will also afford opportunities to be exposed to multiple business areas, including Large Molecule Biologics/Vaccines/Sterile and Animal Health. The Specialist role provides opportunities to actively support projects end-to-end from business case development through design to process start-up and the ultimate implementation of the capital project solution. The Specialist will exhibit leadership behaviours and demonstrate exemplary collaboration, communication and organization skills, as well as developing knowledge of our Capital Management stage gate process.

With our extensive range of facilities and environments, our Engineers have opportunities across many diverse areas including Biological, Chemical, Automation, Capital Projects, Maintenance, Safety, Process Development, Technical Services, Utilities and Validation.



The Specialist, Process Engineer, GES will participate in a high performing team and be responsible for implementation of capital project scope and technical studies that support the company's business objectives. Reporting to a Technology Director or Process Lead, the Specialist will support varying project deliverables ranging from the initial concept phase, process design, equipment specification and vendor management, through to commissioning and qualification, with process implementation and solution realization.The Specialist will interface with the wider company and GES Network of Subject Matter Experts and Project Leaders and is expected to develop and maintain technical knowledge in their respective area of expertise. To enable successful delivery of capital projects, the role involves strong and deep collaboration both with our company cross-functional team members (e.g., Project Management, Technology, Maintenance, Automation, Plant Operations, and Safety) and with multiple external partners (engineering firms, vendors and suppliers, etc).


Key Responsibilities:



  • Collaborates with a team in the evaluation of alternative solutions and the development of assigned system scope

  • Develops assigned system preliminary designs, including process fits and HAZOP participation.

  • Learns company standards & practices and understands application on project to ensure solutions are technically sound.

  • Supports field implementation of solutions for realization phase of the designed assets, including Commissioning & Qualification.

  • Liaises with other technical functions to ensure successful technology implementation

  • Collaborates with contractors, suppliers and other team members in the execution of the work



Percent of travel:



  • >30% for project(s) assignments outside of primary location.

  • Travel and some flexibility in project assignment location is required, as some projects may require short term travel assignments.



Qualifications:



  • Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in Engineering or Applicable Science



Experience



  • Minimum 2 years' experience in engineering, technology and/or manufacturing, preferably within Pharmaceutical API/Biotech industry.

  • Familiarity with process engineering design principles and pharmaceutical process unit operations.

  • Preference for some prior exposure to process equipment life cycle (design and specification, selection, testing, commissioning and qualification).
