Description

The BIS invites applications for the key position of Head of Secretariat, Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI). Leading a team of experts, the Head of Secretariat is responsible for ensuring high-quality support for the standard setting and analytical activities of the CPMI. The ideal candidate possesses a high level of expertise on issues relating to payments and market infrastructures, financial innovation, is familiar with standard setting processes, has strong analytical and communication skills, and a proven track record as a leader. 
 Principal accountabilities:

  • Provide effective support for the activities of the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI)

  • Identify issues of relevance for the functioning and stability of payments and market infrastructures

  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of highly qualified experts

  • Coordinate and oversee the preparation of committee documents and public reports, organise and contribute to studies

  • Ensure effective communication with other standard setting bodies, BIS management, and other committee secretariats, and represent the CPMI and BIS at international meetings and conferences

  • Coordinate contacts with non-CPMI central banks and central banking organisations, international financial institutions and regulatory authorities on payments, clearing and settlement issues

 Qualifications and experience:

  • Advanced degree in economics or finance from a university of international standing (or equivalent experience)

  • Thorough understanding of payments and market infrastructure issues with a focus on systemic aspects and central bank policy activities in this area

  • In-depth knowledge of international cooperation and standard setting processes in the financial infrastructure and stability area

  • Previous experience in central bank policy formulation or oversight of payments and financial infrastructures would be an advantage

 Skills:

  • Excellent analytical capabilities; experience in applying economic thinking to new policy issues

  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills

  • Proven track record in leading a team of highly qualified experts, ideally in an international context

  • Excellent spoken and written skills in English
