Plant Engineering & Technical Manager

Job Purpose:

The Plant Technical Manager is responsible for the technical management (including Process Control Technology) of a plant. He/She isresponsible for maintenance/reliability (including turn-around)activities, identification and implementation of process technology

improvements, assurance of technical compliance/integrity , and training and development of plant engineers and technicians.

Furthermore, the Plant Technical Manager is in charge for planning and execution of investments up to 5m EUR and at least deeply involved inthe execution larger projects (> 5 mEUR), affecting his/her plant.

ThePlant Technical Manager is a member of the plant management team andthe site technical team.

Job Tasks & Responsibilities:

•  Plans and executes, directs, and supervises the technical activities and functions in the plant (including PCT) in order to meet theobjectives as agreed with the site technical manager


• Cooperates with the plant manager in evaluating and achieving plant performance goals related to capacity, operability/ availability, economy, integrity, quality, health, safety, and environment


• Participates in development of plant maintenace strategy and actionplans


• Responsible for execution and monitoring of plant area maintenanceactivities and budget


• Initiates, plans, executes, and monitors plant investments up to 5mEUR; participates in larger projects as technical reviewer or even asowners representative


• Takes initiative and responsibility for identifying, evaluating, andimplementing plant/process modifications in close cooperation with theplant manager


• Takes responsibility for troubleshooting asset and process problems


• Leads (R-manager) the plant technical team of plant 935 consisting ofplant engineers, 2 techncial formen and coordinates trouble shootingand maintenance activities of additional 3 PCT plant engineers plus 1PCT technical forman


• Ensures communication and manage interfaces with internal andexternal service providers


• As a specific task, the plant enineering and technology manager ofplant 935 has to cope with a tremendous challenge to overcome backlogsin plant documentation, equipment labeling, consolidate and renewal ofutility and auxilliary installations. This will include the managementof change in documentatin standards and work routines 

Job Requirements:

• A degree in an engineering discipline (BSc or advanced)


• At least 5-7 years combined experience in engineering, process design, and/or manufacturing


• Proven track record of working in Leading project and/or maintenance roles (includingturn-around) within chemical industry (e.g. as Lead Engineer orEngineering Manager)


• Good knowledge in technical good practices, standards, and tools


• International or at least working experience at different sites/Bayer companies or experience outside of Bayer


• Strong professional competence in engineeringprocesses and tool as well as chemical process technology


• Very good communication and leadership skills; ability to motivate and guide ateam


• Supportive/cooperative attitude; Good understanding of supporting processes associated with operations & maintenance of a plant


• Proven negotiation skills


• Fluent in German and very good English skills required


• A specific emphasis shall be on leadership skills due to the above mentioned challenge resulting from necessary changes in work routine
