WHAT YOU WILL DO:


This critical R&D leadership position in the Trauma & Extremities division significantly impacts the strategy for the Trauma business representing over 60% of 1.4 BUS$ global sales.  The job requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories and practices relevant to a fast moving organization. The role has full management responsibility including the management of numerous teams of managers/professionals, planning for the teams' future needs and operations


Establish the overall technology strategy and Trauma system development for Stryker Trauma & Extremities. Lead the efforts associated with researching concepts as they relate to the platform technologies upon which the Trauma product portfolio will be built. Identify new materials and processes to support the creation of new concepts. Evaluate and obtain new business opportunities through investigations, surgeon ideas and the recommendation of new materials.



  • Develop and manage department expense and budgets and spending with the objective of increasing overall team efficiency and output.

  • Ensure appropriate staffing of research, new projects, QA/RA and manufacturing support.

  • Drive the execution of program delivery from early concept phase to commercialization.

  • Ensure compliance to Quality Management system, design control processes and industry standards.

  • Work closely with the Project Management Office and the overall T&E group to ensure congruence between the technologies being developed, the product development needs of the division and the overall product road-map.

  • Interact with the consultant/designer surgeon group in order to identify new product ideas and new surgical processes and to clarify relevance to driving clinical issues of concern to them.

  • Interface with other departments to build multi functional teams to execute product release and releases.

  • Participate with senior management to identify strategic opportunities and product line strategies.

  • •Manage the team’s employee development and succession planning activities.


WHAT YOU NEED:



  • Bachelor’s Degree in a specific or broad specific scientific field

  • Prefer Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in a technical Discipline i.e. Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or Materials Science

  • 15+ years’ experience in product design and research in the medical device industry ( or other specifically relevant industry)

  • Demonstrated expertise in the design of Medical Implants and instrumentation

  • Demonstrated expertise in the function, clinical issues, and performance requirements of medical implants

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technology development and research initiatives from concept through design transfer

  • Familiarity with design controls within an FDA and CE regulated industry

  • Demonstrated experience managing people managers with professional staff, with demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and build research teams

  • Demonstrated ability to develop budgets and manage expenses to Budget.
