 Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Eawag conducts research, education and expert consulting to achieve the dual goals of meeting direct human needs for water and maintaining the function and integrity of aquatic ecosystems.The Department Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development (Sandec) is offering a position for aProgramme Assistant – Digital learning (60-80%)Sandec conducts research on sustainable development in low-and middle-income countries and seeks a highly motivated and qualified project assistant to support its digital learning program. The successful candidate will help to manage and further develop the digital learning programme at Sandec and support digital learning services for further departments at Eawag.

The digital learning programme at Sandec comprises online and blended learning offers. The MOOC-series “Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development” has reached over 100’000 enrolled learners and attracts around 1’200 new learners every month (further information: www.eawag.ch/mooc). Blended learning offers are developed in close collaboration with partner universities and training centers in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In the coming years, we will further develop the MOOC-series, establish an international WASH programme offered jointly by Eawag and selected partner universities, substantially foster capacity development collaborations with partner institutions in low- and middle-income countries, and conduct research on digital learning in low- and middle-income countries.

The programme assistant will contribute to the continuous improvement of the MOOC series, a.o. by coordinating the course forums; organizing translations; managing related YouTube-channels; designing, testing and validating new assignments and teacher-student interactions; and contrib-uting to the production of new learning modules and courses. The programme assistant will also support blended learning initiatives and digital learning services for Eawag.


We are looking for a person with the following experiences and skills:

  • Experience with the operation of learning management systems and the production of digital learning materials (ideally video production)

  • Working experience in the WASH sector or familiarity with the research topics of Sandec

  • Excellent knowledge of written English and French

  • Interested in new digital learning trends, team-player, solution-oriented working spirit

  • Knowledge of further languages (e.g., Spanish) is a plus

  • Experience working in international development projects, preferably with direct experience of living/working in low- and middle-income countries is a plus
