INTERN, CENTRE FOR GLOBAL PUBLIC GOODS
(February – August 2020) The World Economic Forum, committed to improving the state of the world, is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation. The Forum engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas. 
Why we are recruiting At the Forum, the Centre for Global Public Goods seeks to bring innovation and frontier approaches to help the international system be more agile and equipped to respond to today's challenges. The Centre does this by helping the international community leverage public-private cooperation, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, systems thinking and a platform approach for improved management of the global commons and building sustainable markets for the 2030 development goals. Our teams are currently hiring
five (5) interns to provide support in the areas mentioned below. All intern candidates must be currently enrolled in a course of study, preferably at the Master’s level or higher.

(1) Intern – Civil Society (two positions available) This intern will support the engagement of an exciting portfolio of civil society organisations and community groups doing innovative work in the environment, human rights and development space.

  • Contribute to the engagement of the world’s most renowned civil society organisations and create a plan of action to further diversify community engagement

  • Manage event planning and logistics tied to the Forum’s events, as well as external workshops and meetings.

  • Support internal and external communication needs by updating website and intranet content, maintaining up-to-date community documents

  • Develop and implement new tools and processes to better track levels of integration of civil society organisations in the Forum’s activities


The successful candidate will be assessed on:



  • Further diversification of civil society in relevant initiatives and events

  • Support to raise the public profile of civil society leaders throughout Forum platforms

  • Contributions to the design and delivery of the team’s objectives and calendar of events


Specific requirements:



  • Currently completing a Master’s degree in a relevant subject

  • Interest in and knowledge of the civil society sector, including its main actors, operational contexts and strategic challenges

  • Commitment to and champion for diversity


 


(2) Intern – Tropical Forest Alliance


This intern will support the Tropical Forest Alliance Communications and Campaigns Workstream.



  • Use CMS to publish and edit web content

  • Draft copy to summarise web content for social media, email etc

  • Create graphics and other accessories for social media promotion

  • Conduct media research and update contact lists for press releases

  • Research and liaise between partners to source progress stories

  • Support the #ForestPositive creative campaign

  • Update the database of media and other contacts to ensure accurate, up to date records

  • Monitor and record media mentions of TFA and partner publications

  • Assist with the production and publication of podcasts and videos

  • Contribute ideas to develop new channels for TFA communications


Specific requirements:



  • Currently completing a Master’s degree or equivalent in communication, multimedia design or international relations

  • Experience of relevant social media channels

  • Experience or interest of CMS and CRM tools

  • Familiarity with key outlets and media landscape


 


(3) Intern – Sustainable Development and Fourth Industrial Revolution


This intern will support a new initiative, Accelerating the Fourth Industrial Revolution for Sustainable Development Impact, by supporting research inputs for the development of an assessment framework and the organization of a key event in April 2020.



  • Contribute to the development of a new 4IR technology for SDG framework report, to be published in September 2020

  • Provide support with communications about the new initiative to partners and potential collaborators 

  • Support the preparation of the Global Spring Meeting, convening all partners and stakeholders engaged in the initiative


The successful candidate will be assessed on:



  • Showing innovative thinking in the field of emerging technologies and SDGs and embedding this in the products and deliverables

  • Organizational skills and experience in convening multi-stakeholder events

  • Successfully juggling competing priorities, with shifting parameters, to deliver to the highest standards and to agreed deadlines


Specific requirements:



  • Currently completing a Master’s degree in international development, sustainability and innovation; social impact or other humanities and social sciences

  • Capacity to apply critical thinking and interested in driving the frontier of knowledge around how to better apply emerging tech at scale towards solving for the SDGs

  • Successful experience in animating and managing communities as demonstrated through personal or professional activities

  • Strong interest in and understanding of how emerging technologies can help solve some of the world’s toughest social and environmental challenges


(4) Intern – Global Battery Alliance


This intern will support the Global Battery Alliance (GBA) team across all its activities. This includes the management of the GBA, its communities (e.g. Supervisory Council, Executive Board), events, partnership development, project and programme delivery, and communications.



  • Contribute to the GBA platform management, including as focal point for administration of contracts and financial planning, and support the transition of the GBA out of the Forum in the course of 2020.

  • Support events planning and delivery for the GBA, including sessions at World Economic Forum evens as well as stand-alone GBA meetings, workshops and roundtable events globally

  • Contribute to the expansion of strategic partnerships with coalitions, governments, companies and civil society organizations

  • Help develop strategic communications such as updating GBA marketing material, website, press releases among others.

  • Support the management and development of projects and programmes related to GBA initiatives, including preparing material and setting up working group calls


The successful candidate will be assessed on:



  • Raising the public profile of the Global Battery Alliance

  • Successfully juggling competing priorities, with shifting parameters, to deliver to the highest standards and to agreed deadlines


Specific requirements:



  • Currently completing a Master’s degree in the social sciences, business or other relevant subject

  • Successful experience in animating and managing communities as demonstrated through personal or professional activities

  • Strong interest in and understanding of relevant issues (e.g. energy transition, climate change, materials supply chains, sustainable development) and the connections between them
