Department Overview


The Corporate Communications team works to promote and protect two of the firm’s most important assets: its reputation and its culture.  Corporate Communications drives BlackRock’s communication strategy overseeing the firm's media relations, issues management, executive communications and internal communications program, focusing on the firm's key themes in support of the corporate, wealth, institutional and iShares businesses.


Role Overview


The Head of Corporate Communications Switzerland, based in Zurich, will lead BlackRock's Corporate Communications efforts in one of BlackRock’s key growth markets in the EMEA region.  The role is critical to help shape and enhance the firm's message and brand locally.  The role is based in the Zurich office and reports into the Head of Corporate Communications for Continental Europe.


Key Responsibilities


The primary focus of this role is to develop and execute the communications strategy and activities locally that build greater knowledge and recognition of the firm's brand and the commercial businesses.  It will include working on pan-regional and global projects to support the firm’s key business themes.


The candidate will keep abreast of industry trends and news, provide communications counsel to senior management, provide access to key spokespeople for reporters and help position BlackRock as an industry thought leader in the media.


Other key responsibilities include:



  • Think laterally about innovative and stakeholder-centric ways to deliver BlackRock content to relevant stakeholders through all communications channels, including through the press, internally, via social media and other digital properties, and through direct engagements.

  • Build and/or maintain strong working relationships with news media (print/broadcast/web) including business/financial media, trade and national outlets.

  • Manage issues that arise in Switzerland to help protect BlackRock’s reputation, working closely with senior management locally and Corporate Communications globally.

  • Arrange and facilitate media interviews with trained spokespeople across the firm, ensuring the topic is defined and the spokesperson is briefed in advance with the relevant key messages.

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of media events, roundtables, press conferences and educational seminars.

  • Manage the handling of media enquiries in a timely and efficient manner.  Manage the day to day activity of the PR agencies for the region.



  • Work closely with communications team members in London, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, New York and other locations.

  • Work effectively with senior management and business teams in Switzerland, sharing information and aligning communications activity.

  • Develop strong internal relationships with key stakeholders within BlackRock's institutional, wealth and iShares businesses, sales and marketing teams. 

  • Develop a deep knowledge of BlackRock services and products.  Develop solid understanding of BlackRock’s Investment Stewardship, Public Policy and Investment Institute teams managing their thought leadership with the media on a proactive and reactive basis as appropriate.


Essential skills and qualities



  • 5+ years’ experience in corporate or agency financial Corporate Communications.

  • Experience in reputation management given the size and scale of BlackRock in the marketplace.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, both within a global communications team and the wider business.

  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with resilience and intellectual flexibility.

  • Analytical thinking, the ability to integrate input from multiple stakeholders while working to deadlines.

  • An energetic team player and driven self-starter, with a positive mindset and excellent work ethic.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and exceptional writing ability.

  • In-depth knowledge of Swiss media landscape.

  • Sound understanding of the evolving digital communications landscape.

  • Fluent English and German.


Desired experience, not essential



  • French language proficiency.

  • Knowledge and experience of creating and deploying social media campaigns.
