Electronic Publishing Engineer


Role


The Electronic Publishing Engineer supports and develops technical aspects of the ISO Central Secreteriat's (ISO/CS) publishing chain, from document creation (incl. associated images, formulas etc.) through to their conversion and validation. Support covers installations, upgrades and configuration of products used in this domain. In this role, he/she coordinates maintenance and release cycles with the impacted business units and liaises with product support channels to escalate and follow up on identified issues. He/she also acts as product champion to ensure optimal usage of the tools. In addition, he/she actively works with other teams and contributes to projects by designing and implementing publishing automation as well as integrating publishing tools with other ISO/CS applications.


Key responsibilities



  • Installation, upgrade and configuration of tools and services related to the ISO/CS publishing chain

  • Change management for impacted business units

  • Help identify and escalate issues to the product support channel, prioritize them and follow-up

  • Advise on technical and conceptual aspects such as impact of schema changes, interoperability, format conversion

  • Design and develop automation and integration of publishing tools


Report to: Development Team Leader

Qualification and Experience



  • Technical university degree in software engineering

  • Significant experience in implementing and supporting electronic publishing tools and processes

  • Strong understanding of XML and related technologies


Skills



  • Mastering XML, MathML, Schematron, DTD, XSLT 2.0, XQuery

  • Good knowledge in documents and drawing processing and conversion (PDF, PDF/A, ePub, HTML, PNG, TIF, AutoCAD, EPS, Adobe Illustrator)

  • Practical knowledge of publishing applications: Word, eXtyles, Typefi, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, iText, ImageMagic, MathType

  • Software engineering: Java 8+, Kotlin, Spring Framework, JavaScript, Visual Basic or Powershell

  • Experience in installing and operating software in Windows and Linux environments

  • Reliable and committed to follow-up on identified issues while respecting existing support processes and tools

  • Attention to details and quality assurance

  • Good communicator, will need to liaise with software vendors, ISO members and partners, produce technical documentation and participate in user groups and web conferences

  • Required English + French, oral & written communication. All communication with external community will be in English.

  • Proactive in looking for continuous improvement

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer focus
