Lead Flight Test Engineer (f/m)


Kopter Group AG specializes in the development, production, commercialization and support of a new generation of helicopters. It is based in the Zurich region and currently employs 250 people. Its first model, the single turbine SH09, offers the highest standards of safety, comfort and performance, coupled with low operating costs. Additionally, it provides the largest cabin/cargo volumes, outstanding modularity and the latest generation of electronic systems. Built for the most demanding missions, the SH09 helicopter is generating an excellent market response.


Your responsibilities



  • Determine the actual characteristics of the aircraft, often to prove predicted behaviour based on computed and/or wind tunnel test data

  • Provide evidence that an aircraft or system complies with the requirements of given specification and according to certification standards

  • Management and conduction of development and certification flight tests and all their related subjects

  • Prepare and support flight and ground tests on the aircraft

  • Advise aircrew on the safe and efficient use of aircraft and systems

  • Plan, execute and report on flight trials in the most efficient way, bearing in mind the additional constraints of flight safety, overall technical objectives, time and costs.

  • Prepare flight test documentation, analyse test data, compile the results and release test reports

  • Coordinate the activities related to Flight tests and assist in the definition of Flight Conditions and Permit to Fly

  • Authorises and organises access to the prototype for other departments (engineering and marketing) and EASA or other Airworthiness Certification Authority

  • Provide Design/Development specialists with all required data constraints of flight safety, overall technical objectives, time and costs.

  • Monitors individual aircraft parameters for efficient performance of the test and enhance flight safety

  • Provide technical expertise related to flight test and aircraft operational issues in support of design development activities.

  • Work closely with Kopter Test Pilots to deliver a team centric flight test capability that will support the continued growth of Kopter

  • Compile the Rotorcraft Flight Manual and other technical engineering documents


Your qualifications


Essential



  • Degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • Graduate of a recognized test pilot school (or one holding an EASA ATO for flight test training) having completed a full course in rotary wing flight testing as a lead flight test engineer. The course content must have met the requirements of AMC1 FCL.820 appropriate to an LFTE.

  • Alternatively, holds a National LFTE License.

  • Ability to communicate in English

  • Knowledge of CS 27 and CS 29 flight test requirements

  • Demonstrate >500 flight hours of Cat 1 or 2 test flying

  • Have 7+ years of experience in a flight test role


Highly Desirable



  • Recent experience in the civil certification of helicopters

  • Knowledge of the approval processes in aviation and related fields

  • Hold a national FTE license

  • LFTE experience conducting category 1/2 flight tests in an OEM environment

  • Experience of collaboration with aviation authorities


We are looking for an individual who is excited by the chance to shape future rotorcraft design at Kopter. The role is based at Mollis airfield, Switzerland; it will require extensive worldwide travel for prolonged periods in order to develop and certify Kopter products.
