Job Requirements

For our in-vivo laboratories in Pharmacology, we are looking for an experienced Lab Technician to support our existing lab team in the animal care and the application of key techniques in the lab, exclusively during the weekend.

This position is exclusively assigned to work during the weekend on a regular basis. Work will start on Friday afternoon until Monday morning on an hourly basis:

• On Friday afternoon, the job applicant would discuss with the respective colleagues the specific weekend duties and if required start on Friday evening with the animal work (animal dosing, animal scoring, health check).


• Animal work would resume on Saturday and Sunday mornings and early evenings.


• On Monday morning, the job applicant may also perform the morning animal work before handing overall results and comments from the weekend work to the respective Idorsia colleague.


• Based on our estimate we expect the following work hours per weekend:
  
  
  
  • Friday afternoon: 2-3 hours (work hand-over, Friday evening dosing)
  
  
  • Saturday: 2-4 hours in the morning for dosing and clinical scoring and 1-2 hours in the early evening for dosing only.
  
  
  • Sunday: 2-4 hours in the morning for dosing and clinical scoring and 1-2 hours in the early evening for dosing only.
  
  
  • Monday: 2-3 hours in the morning for (work hand-over and morning dosing).
  
  
  • These weekend hours may be less during times where less experimental work is active.
  
  

Job Responsibilities

• Handling of rodents & application of key techniques: gavage, i.p. injections, i.v. injections, s.c. injections, anesthesia, euthanasia, organ dissection (only rodent experiments)


• Health assessment of animals based on clinical observations, health checks, and disease scoring during the course of the animal study 


• Documenting experiments in an electronic laboratory journal


• Maintaining lab and equipment operational, clean, and safe according to company rules and regulations


• Communicating independently with Idorsia Research Associates to organize studies involving several colleagues from different departments


• Contributing to the general lab infrastructure, including ordering of consumables, and coordinating with colleagues about the workflow, organization, maintenance, and function of lab resources

Candidate's Requirements

• Apprenticeship as laboratory technician and/or equivalent education (BTS/DUT), specialized in Pharmacology/Biology


• Show solid technical expertise in all aspects of animal experimentation


• Good knowledge of English; French and/or German proficiency would be an asset


• Well trained in computer programs


• Disposition for routine work


• Capable to work independently with minimum supervision


• Capability of handling several assays or projects in parallel


• LTKI mandatory/required


• Candidate should reside in the border region of Basel
