Who we are:

At Roche, we believe it’s urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives and we are ambitious in both decision and action. And we believe that good business means a better world. That is why we come to work every single day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigour, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.

In the Ophthalmology group, we are developing cutting edge therapies to prevent blindness. As a member of Ophthalmology, you will be part of a truly international group that includes scientists and clinicians that are developing ophthalmic medicines for the future.

We're currently looking for a creative and talented scientist to lead a drug discovery team. To be successful in this role, you'll need to excel at bringing new targets into the portfolio, at managing project teams to develop drugs, and to advance them to the clinics.

Your key tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Managing a team of some combination of 2-5 full time research associates, postdocs, or PhD students.

  • Identifying new targets through in house research initiatives, in conjunction with partnering, or though academic collaborations.

  • Writing proposals and generating presentations for project teams and for target assessment.

  • Perform duties of a Roche Project Leader (RPF), which include coordinating regular meetings, updating the team on progress, making deadlines, and thinking strategically to advance projects into the clinic.

  • Oversee and/or perform experiments to test research hypotheses.

  • Prepare manuscripts for publication and present work at scientific meetings.

  • Establish collaborations with experts in the field to inform drug discovery decisions, and/or collect critical proof of concept evidence for drug efficacy.

To be great in this role, we believe you will need to have:

  • Completed a postdoc (preferably in Ophthalmology) and experience running a lab.  (Candidates without 1-2 years of experience running a lab will not be considered.)

  • A can-do, positive mindset with creative ways to resolve topics.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of the organization.

  • Extensive knowledge of retinal disease, pathomechanisms of disease, and existing therapeutic options.

  • Knowledge of drug discovery or pharma experience is beneficial, but not required.
