Description

Role purpose

  • Development of resistance-evolution models applied to fungicides

  • Support these models after their deployment with key internal and external stakeholders

  • Assist in resistance-modelling activities applied to other product lines (insecticides and herbicides)

  • Establish and maintain internal and external scientific collaborations for the continued development of resistance-evolution models and the understanding of resistance evolution as a business-critical process

  • Contribute to scientific publications

  • Represent Syngenta and support colleagues in international conferences and meetings promoting sustainable use of crop protection from a resistance-management perspective.

Accountabilities

Operational responsibility

  • Independently ensure good scientific practice is applied in fungicide resistance-modelling activities

  • In close collaboration with Global Prod. Biol. Fungicides, prioritize the operational models to be produced and delivered

  • Continuously improve modelling and analysis methods applied in the business in coordination with other project-team members locally and globally

  • Actively engage with the internal and external scientific community of resistance evolution exploring opportunities of business-value and knowledge aggregation

  • In close collaboration with Global Prod. Biology Fungicides, gather and leverage the necessary knowledge about fungal and plant biology to deploy biologically-relevant models.

Qualifications

Critical knowledge

  • PhD or comparable experience in a population biology-relevant discipline (e.g. population genetics, ecology, epidemiology, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience in building and applying models in population biology is an absolute must

  • Mastery of R and/or Python programming languages. Other programming languages and skills are an asset

  • Profound knowledge of evolutionary biology; resistance-evolution experience in particular is a major asset

  • Advanced knowledge of computational methods for the processing, analysis and visualization of data from simulations and biological systems

  • Good notions of project management.

Critical experience
