Student Internship in Scientific Solution Engineering & Architecture (from January 2020, 3-6 Months)

Our team in Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) Informatics is part of Roche’s global Research & Early Development Organization. The mission of our team is the design, development and delivery of innovative integrated scientific informatics solutions and platforms focusing on data capture, analysis, and visualization of chemical, biological and biomedical data to support scientific decision making in all stages of the drug development processes and finally to deliver new innovative treatments to the patients. This internship program integrates seamlessly into European-based University degree program and therefore we offer the most talented students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with us.


Your main accountabilities will be:



  • Software development to implement a beeswarm plot (special kind of scatter plot) as a custom interactive visualization in TIBCO Spotfire to help scientists across pRED to better visualize their scientific data.

  • Have a direct impact on the daily work of many pRED scientists, and thus improve the development of new treatments for our patients

  • Acting as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the monthly accrual process

  • Supporting ad-hoc project requests from the team

Who you are


You are an enrolled Bachelor or Master student within informatics, medical informatics or a related field. You are motivated to increase and share your theoretical and practical knowledge. You are an enthusiast of new technologies and you easily show engagement with people.


Further qualifications:



  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as a vivid interest in software development

  • Ideally first software development experience, e.g. with C-style programming languages like Java and/or integrated development environment like Visual Studio or Eclipse

  • Experience in a scripting language like Python or R is considered a plus

  • Excellent organizational skills and a flexible approach to coordinate demanding workloads as well as the ability to adapt to changes

  • Ability to work effectively and independently within a diverse group of people

  • Written and verbal English is mandatory
