Student Internship the Neurodegeneration Group (starting immediately / as soon as possible, for 12 months)

Inseriert am: 14.11.2019

At Roche, we believe it’s urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives, and we are fearless in both making decisions and taking action. And we believe that good business means a better world.

In the Neurodegeneration group we investigate mechanisms underlying disease biology using multidisciplinary approaches to develop novel therapeutics in the field of Alzheimer, Parkinson and other neurodegenerative disorders with high unmet medical need. You will be part of a multinational research team located in the Roche Innovation Center in Basel and will have the opportunity to collaborate with scientists, postdocs and research associates.

The project is aimed at investigating mechanisms of RNA splicing dysfunction involved in proteins linked to neurodegeneration. There is the possibility to write your Master Thesis during the internship.

Your main accountabilities will be

  • Support developing innovative cellular models based on human pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived neurons and the characterization of their translational value

  • The application of molecular, biochemical and imaging approaches to understand disease-related molecular processes and their contribution to disease phenotypes

  • Investigating and validating novel molecular mechanisms implicated in Alzheimer disease

Who you are

You are someone who wants to influence your own development. You are looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Working in a multi-cultural environment motivates you. As fast learner, you actively drive the quality of the requirements.

Moreover, you are

  • An ambitious student who is currently enrolled in life-sciences (preferably in the area of cellular or molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Neuroscience) or in a gap year between degrees

  • Advanced in understanding of neurodegeneration principles

  • Preferably experienced in 1) mammalian cell culture, in particular with hiPSC-derived neuronal differentiation techniques, 2) gene expression analysis (in particular with quantitative PCR methods), 3) imaging (fluorescence microscopy, RNA-FISH) and biochemistry (protein analysis, immunoprecipitation) as a plus

  • A strong team player also able to work independently.

  • Proactive and keen to design, execute, analyze and present experiments under the supervision of mentoring scientists

  • Proficient in English

To be considered, please send us your complete application merged into one PDF including

  • CV

  • Motivation Letter (including desired start date)

  • A certificate of enrollment (if you are currently studying)

  • For non-EU/EFTA citizens: Certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory (required due to regulations)

Are you ready to apply? We are looking for someone who thinks beyond the job offered - someone who knows that this position can be a rare springboard to many other opportunities at Roche. When applying for this position, already project yourself in the future. Think about what could come next and how you would like to build your future.
