Head of Communications Region International, Diabetes Care

The Basel Branch Roche Diagnostics International, Diabetes Care employs over 100 people and is the headquarter of the business unit Diabetes Care. As a world-leading supplier of system solutions for patients with Diabetes, the products provide health information to medical decision-makers pivotal for early identification, diagnosis & monitoring.


The position


Based in Basel, the Head of Communications RDC International is responsible for establishing the strategy and execution of internal and external communication around our Roche Diabetes Care business in the Region International (Asia, Latin America, Middle East & Africa). As the Communications business partner, you will enable and support the Head of RDC International and his leadership team in crafting transparency and ensuring inspirational and transparent internal communication as well as in driving the business transformation throughout the region. In addition, you will propose opportunities, set up and implement a strategy for external and digital communication activities in the International region in collaboration with External Communication and country communicators, growing the transparency of Roche Diabetes Care, its associated brands and coordinated diabetes management solutions. The incumbent reports to the Global Head of Communications Diabetes Care and is a member of the Diabetes Care Global Communications LT as well as the Region International Extended LT.


Your responsibilities



  • Responsible for development, improvement and communication of RDC and associated brands in Region International through leading regional external communications, public relations, internal communication and employee engagement,

  • Works with Head of RDC Region International, his leadership team and other relevant partners to establish a communication strategy and plan and executes internal and external communication in close alignment with country communicators with the goal to help the RDC organisation to align, focus and deliver on business objectives.

  • Leads external regional positioning and the overall reputation of RDC, our products and services and the value this brings to patients, providers and other key partners, as well as the region's positioning as an employer of choice and as a great place to work. Works with External Communication function on issues, conflict and crisis management in the region.

  • Supports the Head of RDC International and his leadership team in crafting visibility and ensuring inspirational and transparent internal communication to improve employee engagement as well as enabling the RDC business transformation throughout the region.

  • Establishes and cascades to affiliates communication strategies, plans, messages, objectives, policies, procedures, standards, templates and other tools to drive consistencies and efficiencies, support affiliates as needed, and assure best-in-class communications and positioning of RDC.

  • Proposes opportunities, set up and implement a strategy for external and digital communication activities, growing the visibility of Roche Diabetes Care brands and coordinated Personalised diabetes management solutions for enhanced patient/ customer engagement.

  • As part of the Global Communications team, leads and executes on Global Communication topics and projects.

  • Ensures that all company compliance and ethics standards are met and leads one direct report.

  • This role reports to the Global Head of Communications RDC and is part of the Global Communications LT as well as the extended Region International LT.


Who you are



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field and have a consistent record in creating organisational success at a regional level through communication efforts.

  • 10+ years in internal and external communications, journalism or related business experience. Leadership position(s) within Corporate Communications function, Public Relations or Communications agencies desired.

  • Consumer and healthcare industry experience.

  • Intercultural understanding and sensitivity as well as experience in change communications. Known to work with senior executives to design and deliver leadership communication strategies that drive positive change.

  • Experience in leading and handling within complex, matrixed organisations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated excellence in relationship building and partnering at all levels within an organisation.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and prioritise multiple projects. Advanced skills in running large communication projects with interfaces across the business.

  • Ability to distill complex topics into simple and concise messages. Ability to transfer analysis, concepts and ideas into inspiring & convincing communications.

  • Equally comfortable and skilled at operating at strategic as well as tactical levels.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Fluent in English.

  • Flexibility/ mobility to travel internationally required (15-20%).

  • This position will be remunerated based on local terms.
