Job Summary
In September 2019 we opened an office in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo for which we are looking for young graduates willing to stay connected to scientific research by helping researchers worldwide publish their latest results. This is also a great opportunity to start a first job in a dynamic multinational company which offers interesting career development options to talented, enthusiastic and hard-working people.
You would start out as an Editorial Trainee working in close collaboration with our Managing Editors based in other countries, learning how to process papers properly from submission to publication. Once you have successfully completed your six-month traineeship you will be appointed Assistant Editor in Tokyo, Japan.
You will also have the opportunity to support our inhouse ‘Help-Desk’ service for our Japanese authors.
No previous experience is required, since you will receive full on-the-job training.
Depending on your scientific background, you will be assigned to work on journals related to your field. We are mostly looking for Editors educated in Medicine, Chemistry, Biochemistry Biology, Hydrology, Geodesy, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Material Engineering, Metallurgy, Physics, Energy, Thermal and Power Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Marine Engineering, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Science, Spatial planning, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Climate, Ecology, Agriculture, Land Resource Management, Landscape Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Landscape Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Atmospheric Science, Public Health, Animal Science, and similar.
Responsibilities
Execute editorial work for journals within your area of expertise, including organizing the review process for manuscripts, overseeing editorial decisions and handling the communication between the various parties involved in the publication process.
Your profile
Bachelor, Master or PhD degree
Knowledge of MS office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong written and spoken Japanese and English skills (Japanese Keigo is essential)
Ability to multi-task, attention to detail
Experience with scholarly publishing would be beneficial
Japanese nationality or non-Japanese with a working visa for Japan
