nanoleq is a Spin-Off from ETH Zürich developing a soft wire technology which will change the way e-textiles
are produced.
The smart textile industry is booming. ECG shirts, muscle activity tracking and electrostimulation suits for
sports, breathing and temperature monitoring garments for health care and work-safety textiles are
popping up on the market. However, the textile and electronics industries have not fully merged yet.
Electric wires are rigid, fragile, not easy to insert into garments and they corrode under washing. Motivated
by this challenge, and having worked with stretchable conductive polymers for years, we at nanoleq
developed a new stretchable wiring solution which combines industry-standard lamination tapes with
ultraconductive elastomers. Our solution will enable e-textiles to be comfortable, durable and easy to
produce, and it will kick-start the large-scale production of e-textiles.
The work at nanoleq is interdisciplinary – between material, electrical, textile, mechanical and process
engineering. We work with ETH Zürich, TITV Greiz (a leading German textile institute) as well as textile and
electronics partner companies.
To strengthen our team in Zürich and to satisfy the needs of our customers, we are currently looking for a
textile engineer (50%) .
In close exchange with the founders, you will start with helping us deal with ideas and requests coming
from textile customers. You will try to understand which of them can be solved by using our product and
you will fabricate demonstrators accordingly. You will also teach companies and research institutes how to
integrate and adapt nanoleq’s products to their processes.
Once you understand our technology and the smart textile environment better, your role will shift towards
improving the product design and our production processes together with our textile partners. Your role
will be crucial - with your practical contribution in the laboratory and your exchange with manufacturers,
you will help us improve our understanding of the needs in the smart textile industry and assess the
potential of future textile applications.
The position is starting at 50%. Next year we are planning to expand the team and increase this position to
full time. This method is a good solution for a startup like us, to integrate the right talent and manpower
early enough, and grow without re-hiring. It is also an opportunity for you to work part-time for a while
with appealing perspectives in a growing company.
