Drone Scan Visualizer with Virtual Reality (Diploma Thesis)

Many industries rely on geographical data. This data needs to be up to date to be of use. But even if material is regularly updated, there are always instances where a snapshot of a current situation is more useful: For example, in high risk situations like a flooded area or avalanche prevention. Additionally, these aerial scans can be used for scientific and archaeological purposes to detect either regular patterns or specific irregularities that aren’t easily visible from the ground. The human eye is adapted to picking up patterns from an image very quickly and can infer connections from this much faster than image processing can.

In this role

Your work will include the identification and selection of the right market and use case where a visualization of drone scans in virtual reality is viable and advantageous. For this internship, you are asked to develop a virtual reality application based on a real-world case to prove the values.

 

Objectives:

• Market research of current solutions including hardware and software


• Developing an application for a suitable VR headset that visualizes drone scan data for analysis


• Choose which use cases to work on, identify matching real businessneeds linked to them


• Validation of technical and ergonomic aspects of the developed application by tests

About your profile

• Basic understanding of VR technologies


• Software engineering and programming with Unity3D and C#


• Concrete experience with VR development a plus


• Creative mindset and high affinity to digital innovations
