Communications Manager for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED)

As a major element of Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (Roche pRED), the Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS) function is responsible for all the early efficacy and safety work required take an experimental new medicine safely into clinical trials.


As the PS Communications Manager, you will be part of PS Business Office supporting the Head of PS. You will be accountable for driving the development and implementation of global internal and external communications for the PS leadership team. You should deliver integrated communication programmes that engage employees and excite external stakeholders around the PS science and business. This will include driving the content strategy, channel strategy, change communications, issues management, and executive communications counsel to senior leaders, all with a strong focus on digital and social communication approaches.


You will be a critical member of the pRED Communications team to ensure aligned content strategies across pRED and Roche.


Further responsibilities involve but are not limited to the following:



  • Development and implementation of PS communication programs to drive the strategic requirements of PS and pRED in support of delivering the scientific portfolio, including scientific reputation, internal culture shifts, change and issues/reputation management.

  • Ownership, development and delivery of the PS editorial and channel management strategies with a focus on digital and social channels.

  • Enabling the delivery of internal PS communications and engagement programs to encourage an agile culture across key portfolio-enabling projects, and reward and recognition activities.

  • Manage external communications relating to scientific publications and data releases at congresses and events.

  • Critical member of the Global pRED Communications community to ensure all activities are appropriately positioning PS, and pRED, in all Roche corporate communications.

  • Providing counsel and supporting delivery of executive communications, change communications, and issues & crisis management.

  • Developing strong networks across the pRED and Roche communications communities to enable aligned communication strategies.

Your hands-on experience and qualifications involve:



  • Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business or other relevant experience and 8-10 years of experience in communications methodologies for small and large organizations

  • Excellent professional communications skills and outstanding digital and social media competency

  • Demonstrable experience creating impactful communication programmes internally and externally

  • A passion for science and strong understanding of healthcare and the R&D process; a scientific qualification is an advantage

  • Excellent consulting skills: active listening, ability to quickly extract and summarise key information to provide appropriate insights and recommendations

  • Excellent interpersonal and partnering skills: proven abilities to work effectively and efficiently in cross-functional, matrix environments and build collaborative relationships

  • Excellent influencing and negotiating skills: proven abilities to influence without authority

  • Excellent writing skills and creative thinking to be able to translate complex topics into simple, engaging communication campaigns

  • Highly skilled at producing creative content, with experience in video and graphic work an advantage

  • Fluency in both English and German

  • Strong team player, highly collaborative with a ‘can-do’ attitude
