At Roche, we believe it’s urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives and we are fearless in both decision and action. And we believe that good business means a better world.
That is why we come to work each day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigor, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.
Roche's Pharma Research and Early Development Informatics (pREDi) team is the bridge between digital technology and science. We help drive medical innovation and are integral to the realisation of truly Personalised Healthcare and the development of innovative treatments for our patients.
The pREDi Digital Biomarker team leverages smartphones, wearables and other remote monitoring technologies to collect objective, sensitive and continuous sensor data from patients in clinical trials and drive the development of novel drug endpoints. As a cornerstone of a broad cross-functional Roche-team, we create innovative remote monitoring concepts, implement them, deploy them in clinical drug trials, develop health related outcomes with the data, and seek community- and regulatory acceptance of corresponding endpoints. Our focus is on more successful clinical development of novel therapies for patients, and building the scientific foundations for disease monitoring and screening solutions in clinical practice.
As Digital Biomarker Technology Lead you will “follow the science” to:
become accountable for end-2-end delivery of your digital biomarker portfolio (current main focus: Neuroscience)
co-develop digital biomarker and digital clinical outcome strategies with clinical development teams (especially with Biomarker Experimental Medicine Leads - e.g. cognitive neuroscientists, neuroimagers, and/or electrophysiologists, and Translational Medicine Leads - e.g. psychiatrists and/or neurologists)
lead large interdisciplinary project teams that implement the remote patient monitoring (RPM) solutions enabling the digital biomarker and digital clinical outcome strategies, with a particular focus on concept development, technology implementation, clinical trial deployment, sensor data analysis, and endpoint development
lead the implementation of RPM analyses and the communication of results, including at conferences and in peer-reviewed publications in fields such the therapeutic area of interest, machine learning and digital medicine, and in Neuroscience more broadly
engage external clinical, patient and regulatory experts to shape RPM solutions and sensor data endpoints throughout the life-cycle of RPM projects
contribute to shape and drive our RPM strategy within the Roche clinical development portfolio
drive the use of RPM data for Roche internal and global regulatory drug development decision-making
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual, with a PhD in e.g. biomedical engineering, cognitive science, neuroscience or a related medical/quantitative natural science discipline who has a stellar publication record. Do you possess excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills and are a self-starting teammate? If you bring several of the following set of skills and expertise listed below, we are looking forward to receiving your application:
intrinsic passion for transforming healthcare using digital technology, especially for modernizing clinical endpoints in drug development and improving disease management and patient care
track record of initiating and leading complex, interdisciplinary R&D projects and project teams, especially in the fields of software and technology implementation, clinical studies, and time series data analysis
strong scientific and curious mind-set with significant experience in clinical research, experimental design or the development of statistical analysis plans, ideally in a pharmaceutical or related industry setting
working experience with analysing and modelling large time series data sets
both clinical and biological understanding in areas where Roche has a strong focus, preferably psychiatric, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s or Huntington’s Disease or Multiple Sclerosis. Other areas of interest include Inflammation, Immunology, Ophthalmology and Oncology
native English or equivalent, excellent writing skills
ability to work in a quickly evolving, highly regulated and dynamic environment
We welcome these additional nice-to-have skills:
hands-on work with sensor or other high frequency/complex time series data, including feature engineering
deep experience with software project ownership, and especially with functional requirement models like use case and user story development, and requirement gathering
experience with engineering hardware for RPM and sensor data collection
experience with developing digital biomarkers, digital clinical outcomes and digital endpoints
FDA/EMA regulatory interactions or regulatory consortia regarding clinical drug development and novel drug development endpoints
If you are proud of contributing and feel you have the dedication to teamwork and innovation that we are seeking, then Roche is the organization for you. Every role at Roche plays a part in making a difference to patients’ lives. If you want to work in a passionate team, make your mark & improve lives, apply now.
