Group Leader Clinical Demand and Supply Planning

The Clinical Demand & Supply Planning mission is to cost-effectively ensure the right product is in the right place at the right time every time, such that no patient will go without and no clinical trial will be delayed. The group lead will report to the Head of Kaiseraugst Clinical Demand & Supply Planning and will play a critical role in achieving this mission. 


Primary responsibility of this position is to successfully manage a team of CDSLs (Clinical Demand & Supply Leaders), to ensure the department objectives are achieved and to support direct reports with performance management, personal development, and issue resolution. Additionally, the CDSL group lead is expected to apply change management techniques to successfully guide the team through changes. The CDSL group lead will be expected to adhere to the Roche Leadership Commitments to build a strong group of engaged and motivated employees.  Group leads are active members of a global CDSL management team that seeks to improve all aspects of the Clinical Supply Chain business; such as customer service and collaborative partnerships, simplifying both internal and cross-functional business processes, and focusing upon establishing a strategic global direction for the department.


The CDSL group lead will ensure the team of CDSLs partner with Clinical Operations to translate trial assumptions into drug forecasts and utilize SAP/APO to develop both supply & distribution plans. These plans need to align with the Technical Development Teams and meet major Clinical Operations milestones. Moreover, CDSLs partner with teams preparing and coordinating timely finished goods packaging to ensure packaging plans are handed over to meet customer requirements. Partnering with Finance ensures accurate budgeting of project variable costs. As a manger the group lead will be expected to determine the best use of resources and assign responsibilities for molecules and project work in order to meet department goals and align with individual’s development.


In addition to managing the team of CDSLs, this role has accountability for planning one or more development molecule programs. CDSL group leads are expected to lead cross-functional teams as required to drive improvement and align with our colleagues in San Francisco to assist with global process integration.

  • Academic degree or equivalent diploma (preferably in Life Sciences) with at least 6 to 9 years work experience in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent

  • Clinical and/or drug development experience and knowledge in cGMPs, cGCP’s and EU Trial Directive

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German and English

  • Proven Leadership skills in accordance with the Roche Leadership commitments and values

  • Experienced project manager with great attention to detail and strong negotiation skills

  • Ability to set priorities and to remain flexible in stressful situations

  • Proven ability to successfully achieve results within multi-cultural and global teams

  • Knowledge of lean product system tools and methods

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP/APO is required.

  • APICS certification a plus

  • Self-motivated, achievement driven and able to work independently with limited supervision

  • Willingness to travel, up to 10%
