The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of matter and materials, energy and environment and human health. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether PSI employs 2100 people.
For Laboratory for Mesocopic Systems, based at the PSI, is a joint laboratory between the ETH Zurich and the PSI. One scientific focus of the group is to study the emergence of magnetic correlations in artificial spin systems consisting of arrays of magnetically-coupled nanomagnets. To expand our current research on artificial spin systems therefore we are looking for a
Postdoctoral FellowMagnetic Correlations in Artificial Spin SystemsYour tasks
To manufacture artificial spin systems using nanofabrication methods
To characterise the magnetic properties of the prepared samples with lab-based measurement techniques
To measure magnetic correlations in artificial spin systems with synchrotron X-Ray and neutron scattering methods, as well as X-Ray microscopy and low energy muon spectroscopy, at the Paul Scherrer Institute and worldwide
To relate the measured correlations to theoretical predictions of statistical models and Monte-Carlo simulations
Your profileExcellent qualifications with a master degree in physics, material science, or a related field and enjoy practical work. Knowledge of magnetism, X-Ray scattering, or nanofabrication methods is beneficial. As an enthusiastic researcher you like team work and have a flexible approach to working between different laboratories. We offerOur institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with our modern employment conditions and the on-site infrastructure.
