Your mission :
The EPFL Blue Brain Project (BBP), situated on the Campus Biotech in Geneva, Switzerland, applies advanced neuroinformatics, data analytics, high-performance computing and simulation-based approaches to the challenge of understanding the structure and function of the mammalian brain in health and disease. The BBP provides the community with regular releases of data, models and tools to accelerate neuroscience discovery and clinical translation through open science and global collaboration.For our Core Services team, we are looking for an experienced System Engineer (W/M) with a modern, ambitious mind to participate in the team’s daily DevOps work. We guarantee that no day will be the same nor will you be bored as you will be working with state of the art HPC hardware and modern software: we use e.g. OpenStack, Openshift, Ceph, ELK, Jenkins, Gerrit, Puppet, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, Slurm and many other technologies to provide our researchers with modern computing infrastructure Main duties and responsibilities include :
While you’d be contributing to the daily DevOps work of the Core Services team, emphasis in your work would be on handling the development and operations of BBP’s parallel filesystems (GPFS/Spectrum Scale), backups (TSM) and other storage solutions (e.g. Ceph, NetApp). Duties would include e.g. configuration and optimization for performance, defining policies for data transfer, developing data sharing services, improving data lifecycle management and handling daily operational tasks (system monitoring, incident handling, backing up data). Your profile :
Bachelor or Master degree in computer science - or similar
Experience working in a collaborative and multi-cultural environment
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral
Fast learner, eager to expand your domains of expertise
Proven ability to work both independently and in team-based environments
Fluent communication in English (written and spoken)
What we require from you:
Excellent knowledge of Linux (e.g. RedHat/CentOS, Ubuntu)
Proficiency in programming/scripting languages (e.g. Python, Ruby, Perl, shell)
Proficiency in configuration, provisioning and CI tools (e.g. Puppet, Ansible, Git, Jenkins)
Experience with storage (e.g. GPFS/Spectrum Scale, Ceph, NetApp) & backup systems (e.g. TSM)
Track record of operating production services in various computing environments

Experience with datacentre networking (IB, Ethernet)
Exposure to cloud and container technologies (e.g. Openstack, OpenShift, Singularity)
Experience with compute & data centre infrastructure
