Head of IC-IT Services (M/W) – 100%


Your mission :

Reporting directly to IC School’s dean’s office and working in close collaboration with research laboratories, teaching staff, administrative units, VPSI, and other EPFL organizations, you will be in charge of managing the IC-IT services unit, including its budget, team, contracts, service level agreements, operations, and investments.
Main duties and responsibilities include :



  • Deliver effective and high quality hardware and software support services for units and labs in IC and for other units outside of IC, a total of 500 internal users and over 3’000 students.

  • Manage operations, capacity planning, and governance of the IC compute cluster for IC researchers.

  • Manage the IC School computer classrooms, in collaboration with teachers (300 computers in 6 classrooms).

  • Ensure IT Security for IC School and several centers or institutes, as member of the EPFL Commission de Sécurité Informatique and its crisis unit with functional reporting to the VP of Information Systems for security issues.

  • Represent the School in EPFL IT Commissions and steering committees.

  • Coordinate IT collaborative projects between IC units and other EPFL services and units.

  • Purchase material and manage public tenders.

  • Manage a team of 9 people composed of engineers, technicians, secretary, and up to 3 apprentices.

  • Manage the IC-IT budget.


Your profile :



  • Substantial experience in managing IT hardware/software services and IT security for a company or an academic department.

  • Academic degree in computer science.

  • Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken, is mandatory.

  • Experience in team leadership and budget management.

  • Capability to supervise transversal project teams and individual contributors’ work.

  • Ability to quickly learn and manage the adoption of new technologies.

  • Comfort in matrix organizations with both line and functional reporting.

  • Creative, efficient, highly motivated, self-driven, self-organized, and comfortable in a fast paced and evolving environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent communicator with an ability to work with and motivate a wide range of people.

  • A desire to work with top researchers developing leading edge technologies.
