Senior development Engineer based in Zuchwil


(Permanent) 

The Senior development Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, design and development of existing implants and instruments as well as the development of line extensions and may also have a direct report. Furthermore she/he will lead and work on large projects as well as shape internal development processes.

 
Further responsibilities and duties are

  • Initiate and implement modifications to current products and develops new implants and instruments according to the Synthes product development process.

  • Responsible to maintain the patient safety and compliance of implants and instruments according to internal processes such as complaint handling, change management, field investigation, audit support and CAPA’s.

  • Support of manufacturing sites to avoid back orders and improve reliability, safety, efficiency and costs of the product such as manufacturing transfer, process improvement support, production risk management.

  • May manage up to one direct report and act as a point of reference for the team. Deputy of a team leader or group manager for dedicated responsibilities.

  • Expert in development process, medical devices, quality and manufacturing and able to spread her/his know how and knowledge within the team and the organization.

  • Responsible for the performance of the product and its mechanical stability, as well as the application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

  • Develops mechanical test set-ups (including derivation of benchmarks) according to national and international standards and coordinates the activities required to fabricate test parts and complete mechanical testing (according to PD process).

  • Performs the required activities to ensure compliance with national and international regulations related to medical devices (in particular EU MDD/R, US FDA, Japanese PAL).

  • Know and follow all laws and policies that apply to the job, and maintain the highest levels of integrity, ethics and compliance at all times 5-10 bulleted duties that represent the most critical tasks/responsibilities for this job.


Qualifications



  • University or ETH course plus at least 5 years practical experience or 2 years following award of doctorate, or experienced professional, who has mastered the job through professional training and extensive experience (min. 12 years). Additional education in material science, Project management, anatomy, medical devices or quality is a plus.

  • Extensive knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy or/and (traumatology) Implants and instruments.

  • Accustomed to work on large projects in a high regulated environment with demanding quality systems and development processes.

  • Willingness to accept responsibility and visibility in the team and organization.

  • Confident in team work but also able to work autonomously and to lead large projects.

  • Solution oriented, showing a "can do" attitude and high resilience.

  • Skilled in mathematics (Statistics), GD&T / Tolerance stack and other development tools.

  • Ability to work on different task simultaneously (multitasking).

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes of metallic materials and polymers as well as metallurgic knowledge is an advantage.

  • Flexible.

  • Good knowledge in German and English, written and spoken.
