Description:

The Insecticide Resistance Team at Syngenta is recruiting a Research Scientist in Entomology/Biochemistry. We are looking for a motivated researcher to design, execute and analyse in vivo and in vitro experiments related to metabolism of insecticides in arthropods. Based at Syngenta's Research Centre at Stein, Switzerland you will join a highly dynamic team, which has its core activities around insecticide resistance and management. You will lead technical aspects of insecticide metabolism, advising colleagues across the different functions in Crop Protection Research, relating to Biological Sciences.


 
Role purpose:
 

  • To provide the scientific and technical expertise required to design and perform studies that inform about the metabolism route and profile of agrochemicals in arthropods.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge in the developments in science and technology that are relevant to the research topics related to insecticide metabolism.

  • Participate in cross-disciplinary projects, working with colleagues from other disciplines, conducting and co-ordinating the delivery of studies, to ensure project needs are met.

  • To initiate changes to established protocols or technology that bring improvements in capability and efficiency.

  • May lead small multi-disciplinary projects, which will mean effective use of resources expenditure within agreed limits. May be responsible for managing junior staff and students. 

 

Qualifications

 

You will:



  • Be involved in a demanding research environment, being part of a committed multi-disciplinary team.

  • Implement the HS&E actions needed to ensure that the operations are within defined standards.

  • Set and perform operational priorities, agreed on these with the Team Leader (TL).

  • Apply your previous experience in Entomology/Biochemistry to drive innovation in insecticide metabolism, guiding and leading the delivery of technical solutions.

  • Provide high quality practical advice to others by applying previous experience and theoretical knowledge.

  • Build a network with key contacts in pursuit of overall goals and objectives agreed with TL.

  • Manage day to day expectations of stakeholders.

 

To be successful in this role, we believe you will need:


 

  • Honours degree or equivalent in Biology, Agricultural Science or related disciplines. Preferably, a PhD related to Biochemistry, Entomology or insecticide ADME. Research experience in a relevant professional or academic environment.

  • Knowledge about recombinant expression of cytochrome P450 monooxygenases.

  • Ideally experience in Analytical Science (e.g. Mass Spectrometry).

  • An external network of scientists in related fields.

  • Team mentality, effective interpersonal and communications skills, being able to influence colleagues from various disciplines and to provide guidance to junior staff and students.

  • Talent to work effectively with staff at all levels within the organisation and a creative mind for problem-solving.
