Development Engineer BGE R&D System Reagents (100%)

We are looking for an experienced chemist/material scientist for our dedicated Blood Gas & Electrolytes (BGE) System Reagents team.

Who we are

BGE System Reagents team is a team within the Sensor, Reagents and Processes Development Department at R&D RDI Rotkreuz. Our expertise belongs to calibrators, controls, diluents, internal solutions and auxiliary reagents for our BGE instruments on the market. The System Reagents team comprises persons with backgrounds in method development, chemistry, material science and lab-scale production of reagents. We perform multi-disciplinary projects and tasks in the following areas:

• Development or change of IVD reagent formulations (calibrators, controls, internal solutions)


• Replacement of raw materials in reagent production


• Improvements of test methods and quality control (QC) methods


• Reagent unit specifications


• Evaluation and specification of primary packaging materials


• Support of operations and regulatory affairs


• Product care for all system fluids in BGE systems

We work in a close cooperation with other BGE R&D teams, reagent process improvement, reagent production and QC team.

As a Development Engineer within BGE System Reagents team you are responsible for:

• Development of reagent formulations according to the requirements;

• Evaluation of the chemical stability of the formulations, and compatibility with sensor materials;


• Close cooperation with system engineering, system analytics and system testing teams;


• Establishing and maintaining collaborations with other teams in Roche Diagnostics and with external partners


• Analysis of reagents and materials in external laboratories according to the standards; evaluation of test results;


• Timely and efficient documentation of test results; preparation of test plans, test reports;


• Technical project management; coordination of time plans, deliverables, tasks

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a chemist or material scientist who is willing to work 100% in multi-disciplinary environment. You are motivated to work with reagent formulations including chemical and material compatibility, to carry out tests in the chemical laboratory. Your profile fulfills following requirements:

• PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry


• Knowledge of microbiological controls of IVD reagents;


• Experience in the development of different formulations is a plus;


• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with chemical analytical methods;


• Technical skills to work in the chemical laboratory (solution preparations, reagent testing);


• Good writing skills, proficiency in technical writing;


• Good communication skills - you can cooperate and network with people accross R&D; Operations, Quality Assurance and Project management;


• Initial project management skills are required;


• Fluent in English, German
