PURPOSE OF POSITION


 


The Director Learning & Development is responsible for the design, development, execution and control of Talent & Leadership Development, Trainings in Guest Excellence, Behavioral and professional skills. You will be reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources and interact closely with the business leaders and HR Directors to support our business development objectives. This role is based in our Head Office in Basel, Switzerland, and involves up to 50% of travel worldwide.



RESPONSIBILITIES



Professional skills
• Define Talent Development strategy in close cooperation with Business and HR
• Design & execute training concepts and curricula together with Nautical, Land & Hotel Operations
• Define & organize “Train the Trainer” and leadership trainings for Crew/Corporates & Office
• Run Learning Management System and produce state of the art digital Learnings / Crew TV
• Define Learning Quality Standards and measures to control training success/certification
• Support and coach supervisors in the facilitation of technical skills trainings
• Leadership Coaching of shipboard leadership team members
• Research industry trends, training strategies & tools (know the training market environment)



Guest Excellence
• Train and continuously develop Viking’s brand service program STAR Service
• Coordinate training needs analysis for leadership topics and derive actions in close cooperation with Operations, and in alignment with Viking’s leadership philosophy
• Act as learning business partner to all department heads and proactively suggest appropriate improvement measures



Mindset & Values
• Define Training & Development processes in an effective & efficient manner
• Close alignment and prioritization of training activities with Operations



Communication & Coordination
• Maintain close ongoing business relations with all Departments & relevant HR partners
• Maintain good business relationships with a trusted network of training
• Elaborate, coordinate and manage budget for all training activities throughout the year
• Ensure efficient administration and adequate reporting of training & development measures


 


Leadership
• Ensure effective use of skills & resources to produce content and develop programs to meet operational needs in fast and effective manner
• Lead a team of professionals in the office and in travelling positions, and create a motivational performance culture enabling people to thrive in their field of competence



QUALIFICATION PROFILE



• Several years of L&D experience in the field of Hospitality or Cruise Industry within an international environment, proven and reliable network in the training field
• University degree in Business, Human Resources, Learning & Development or related field
• Fluent written and spoken English, competency in other languages are an asset
• Ability to elaborate, develop and execute training strategy based on learning needs
• Strong business acumen, exceptional work ethic and customer orientation
• Solid (proactive/precise) communication skills (written and verbal)
• Excellent planning and organizational abilities
• Flexibility and willingness for co-operation and teamwork
• Reliable and stress-resistant
• Creative, “Hands-on” with a “making it happen”-attitude
