Job Description Summary


Being an important and highly valued member of our Pre-Clinical Services (PCS) team - in Basel or Walkersville MD, USA we are looking for an experienced Head Pre-Clinical Services - Cell & Gene Therapies (CGT)


Role Purpose:


The role of the Head Pre-Clinical Services CGT is to define – besides contract development and manufacturing – all services needed for successfully developing Cell & Gene Therapies from candidate selection to filing an Investigational New Drug Application (IND) and create a new integrated service offering for this. It is also part of the job role to implement this new service offering, guide marketing & sales activities and manage programs, which have been won. Besides generating relevant revenues for these services, this role should also attract new early stage Cell & Gene Therapy development projects to Lonza.


Key Accountabilities and Duties:



  • Creates business plan for Pre-Clinical CGT services

  • Defines value proposition and marketing strategy for the new service bundle for CGTs

  • Leads meetings with prospective clients and provides subject matter expertise

  • Provides guidance and direction to Proposals Team for creation of integrated pre-clinical service offerings for CGTs

  • Leads as program manager integrated CGT projects and ensures that timelines and financial targets are met

  • Provides strategic consulting to clients for definition of the most appropriate First-in-Human development strategy for a compound

  • Builds a team of experts for commercial development, project management, regulatory strategy and other functions as necessary for successful sales and management of CGT First-in-Human projects

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Furthermore you have the following skills, experience and qualifications:



  • Degree in Life Sciences or other relevant studies and experience.

  • PHD, MD preferred in (Clinical) Pharmacology, Toxicology

  • Minimum 10 years including previous relevant experience in core project/program management

  • Excellent understanding of all drug development activities in the pre-IND phase particularly for C&GT products.

  • Solid track record as a leader, developing others and encouraging growth within the function

  • Strong relationship builder

  • Solid experience engaging customers at senior levels internationally

  • Knowledge of Project or Program Management.

  • Fluency in English.

  • Travel about 30-40%
