Backend Software Developer (80 – 100%)

IT'IS is an independent, nonprofit research organization closely associated with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, with a focus on measurement and simulation of the electromagnetic near-field, advanced computational life sciences (CLS) simulation tools and dedicated high-quality evaluation and test systems. Currently, we are expanding our CLS activities and are looking for a dynamic, motivated, and experienced Backend Software Developer to strengthen our multi-disciplinary group. The team is responsible for the development of Sim4Life as well as for the web based open-source platform o2S2PARC.

Your challenges:

• Integration of 3rd-party simulation services as dockerized applications into our open-source cloud-based CLS simulation platform


• Design of an intuitive and maintainable client-server application programming interface (API)


• Dealing with complex scientific data and establishing a chain of trust for tracing every step of data processing


• Working within an agile development process in a highly skilled interdisciplinary team


• Performing cutting-edge software R&D in a dynamic environment

Your strengths:

• University or technical college degree (Bachelor, Master, or PhD) in Information Technology or Computer Sciences (or equivalent expertise)


• Expertise in micro-services, containers, and orchestration (docker/kubernetes)


• Expertise in asynchronous programming (Python, node.js, C++, etc.)


• Expertise in version control systems (git, svn)


• Experience with client-server APIs (REST, OpenAPI, Thrift, websockets, etc.)


• Experience in writing testable software components within a continuous integration/continuous delivery environment


• Interest in performing research to discover new technologies and integrating them into our existing tools / platforms


• Self-motivation, friendly, outgoing personality, and the ability to learn quickly


• Fluency in English – both oral and written – required, German language skills a plus
