The Department of Earth Sciences at ETH Zurich is a global center of excellence in the field of Earth sciences. We explore our planet and its home in the Solar System as a whole, and we create new knowledge pertaining to questions relevant to humanity.
The Institute of Geochemistry and Petrology is looking for a talented and motivated postdoctoral scientist with a strong knowledge of LA-ICPMS microanalysis. This opening is for a 2-year position that will combine running both our ETH-GeoLas / Quadrupole-ICPMS and Resonetics / Element XR facilities with independent research in the field of the applicant. This research may either go in the direction of original geochemical applications in any field related to mineral deposits (e.g. fluid and melt inclusion microanalysis), igneous petrology, geochronology, isotope geochemistry and/or it may focus on the development of new analytical methods using Time-Of-Flight, Multi-Collector or LIBS instruments available by collaboration with other research groups at ETH Zurich. Work expectations include training of graduate students, internal and external collaborators (40%), and contribution to the MSc-level teaching and general services to the Mineral Resource System and the Magmatic Petrology and Volcanology groups (max. 20%).
Essential requirement for selection is a record of hands-on experience with LA-ICPMS analysis and a scientific record in either geochemistry, geochronology or analytical chemistry. For the direction of your own research we are looking forward to read your proposal as part of a short (1-3 page) research statement. The working language of the department is English.
