Postdoc or Senior Assistant position in high-precision GNSS 100%
Inseriert am: 11.07.2019
ETH Zurich is one of the world's leading universities specializing in science and technology. It is renowned for its excellent education, its cutting-edge fundamental research and its efforts to put new knowledge and innovations directly into practice. You will be part of the Chair of Mathematical and Physical Geodesy, which is active in researching the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and their integration with other observation techniques and models in a trans-disciplinary context. The professorship Mathematical and Physical Geodesy (Prof. Markus Rothacher) in the Institute of Geodesy and Photogrammetry, ETH Zurich, solicits applications for a position to be filled by either a postdoc or a research assistant. The research field will be space geodesy, with a focus on high-precision GNSS applications in close cooperation with other scientists and PhD students in the group.Postdoc or Senior Assistant position in high-precision GNSS The position will concentrate on aspects of the comparison and combination of space geodetic techniques (GNSS, VLBI and SLR) and the use of various co-location links (position, troposphere, clocks, orbits) between the different observation techniques on ground and in space. This also includes a major involvement in cube satellite constellation with low-cost GNSS receivers to be launched in 2020 and in the design and realization of a small, low-cost multi-technique payload consisting of a multi-GNSS dual-frequency receiver, a VLBI transmitter and SLR retroreflectors to be flown onboard one or more cube satellites. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in geodesy, geosciences, physics, engineering or a related field. The candidate is expected to have a background in space geodesy in general and in GNSS high-precision data processing and analysis in particular. A solid basis in mathematics and physics, data analysis methods and programming, fluency in English and readiness to work with other scientists and students in a multi-disciplinary environment are essential for this position. Interest in teaching activities, the supervision of student works and knowledge of the German language are clear advantages in the selection process.
The position is open from now on with an appointment for at least 3 years. Selection will start immediately, and continue until the position is filled.
