80-100%The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, services, and education and training at the local, national and international level. About 850 people from more than 80 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.



The Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH) of Swiss TPH provides policy advice, project design and management in the area of national and global health with the aim to strengthen health systems and improve health service delivery. The Health Systems Support Unit based in Basel in Switzerland is currently looking for a Project Associate in Public Health / Surveys.
Your position

  • Strengthen the expertise and role of Swiss TPH/SCIH in the field of surveys and operational / implementation studies / research

  • Conduct assignments including literature reviews, the design and implementation of epidemiological surveys, health facility assessments, stakeholder engagement, data quality audits, etc.

  • Initiate and coordinate the acquisition of projects / assignments / consultancies relating to operational / implementation studies / research

  • Support visibility and communications work within the unit


Your profile





  • Advanced university degree in epidemiology, public health, survey methodology & practice, data science, environmental health or a related field

  • At least 3 (three) years of international experience working on public health and development issues, including in Low and Middle Income Countries

  • Demonstrated experience with carrying out surveys and operational / implementation studies / research independently. Specific experience in health, social or environmental impact assessments are an asset

  • Experienced in the management of quantitative and qualitative data collections (ideally including electronic data collections), data management, data analysis and report writing

  • Language skills: the candidate should be fluent in English and French (German, Portuguese and Spanish would be further assets)

  • Willingness to travel abroad frequently

The position is based in Basel and initially limited to 18 months duration being a replacement for an extended maternity leave.
