As a Senior Principal Engineer within the Cloud Engineering team, you will help reinvent the development, adoption and governance of the NIBR cloud environment which provides AWS, GCP and Azure services to support the diverse informatics needs of biomedical science. You will have real-world success in designing and delivering AWS solutions at scale and will use your expertise in DevOps, software security, networking technologies and database design to support and empower scientific and informatics groups.
Your responsibilities will include
• The design, development and delivery of scalable, reliable and trustworthy AWS solutions
• Defining and driving the adoption of cloud services and SDLC best practices
• Coaching engineers towards cloud-native paradigms
• Cross functional leadership, using cloud-native tools when designing scientific informatics workloads
• Collaboration with other software engineering functions within our enterprise IT organisation
• Providing blueprints, patterns and templates to scientific and informatics teams choosing to adopt cloud technologies
• Contributing to the migration of applications and data to cloud hosting platforms
• Participation in the software engineering activities of our partners and collaborators
Minimum requirements
What you’ll bring to the role:
• The ability to decompose, analyse and rearchitect existing software solutions
• Significant and relevant software engineering experience
• In-depth expertise in cloud technologies such as ECS, Fargate, EKS, Lambda and message queue technologies
• Extensive experience in the design and implementation of cloud solutions
• Practical experience of common scientific MPI and supercomputer workloads
Desirable requirements:
• Mastery of one or more scripting languages and of one or more declarative languages
• Certificates of competence in cloud technologies (e.g. AWS Solutions Architect Associate)
• Demonstrable thought leadership in the field of AWS software engineering (e.g. public speaking engagements)
