Description The Director, Regional Field Medical Excellence (RFME), Medical Affairs Capabilities is a role within the EU Regional Medical Affairs Capabilities (MAC) Team that reports into the Executive Director, EU Regional Medical Affairs Capabilities (MAC) Lead. The RFME Director serves as the liaison between the Global Field Medical Excellence organization and the region they represent and will have a dotted line into the Global FM CoE Lead. The RFME Director provides strategic Leadership for all functional aspects of the field medical role and activities and will lead a regional team of country MSL leads and representatives. The RFME Director is responsible for partnering with the country/regional lead(s) to ensure that the region’s Field Team is an industry leader. The RFME Director supports the alignment of Field capabilities and accountabilities globally and supports regional leadership in ensuring that the region meets/exceeds the global standards established, and utilizes the tools, systems and processes developed by the FM CoE. The RFME Director is responsible for supporting the identification, prioritization, development, delivery and measurement of a set of global Field Excellence Initiatives to enhance and improve the Company’s Field Medical organization. The RFME Director also brings the voice of the region to Directors of Scientific Training, Skill and Capability Training, Director of Strategic Planning within the Field Medical CoE as well as Medical Affairs Operations within the GMAC. The RFME Director will work closely with the other regional GMAC functions to align business processes and to foster exchange and integrated solutions between the GMAC functions. To align Field Medical within the region, the RFME will work with country Field Medical leaders and representatives to achieve high quality standards across the region and to share best practices between affiliates. The RFME will work closely with Medical Affairs Leadership in the region to guide and establish a process to establish and implement TA specific Field Medical strategies and to assess progress and gaps.
Accountabilities
Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:• Translates the company strategy for Field Medical and the strategic role that Field Medical needs to play into a regional Field Medical strategy;• Support the development of the Field Medical Excellence Initiatives, acting as project sponsor and serve as a resource as required;• Manage the execution of assigned Initiatives; • Contribute to and understand the application of the global Field Medical standards in their region;• Collaborate with the assigned region to ensure clear lines of communication exist between FM CoE and the region team;• Working with the regional lead(s), develop a list of key areas for improvement that would have a meaningful impact on the region’s ability to achieve the global standards; • Assist in the prioritizing the list of areas for improvement based the needs of their region; • Coordinate with the FM COE Training Leads and the regional team to support the delivery of the Field Excellence Initiatives in the regions;• Assist in the collection of Field Excellence Initiatives metrics and ensure that the outcome measures are accurately reported to regional and global leadership;• Support ad-hoc analyses on projects and initiatives to proactively escalate issues, propose solutions and modify strategies;• Engage directly and independently in high level communications with multiple internal stakeholders working closely and collaboratively with colleagues in EU GMAC, Global Medical Operations and Global Medical leadership;• Adhere to the compliance and regulatory procedures, working closely with Compliance and Legal;• Serve as a Field Medical SME in the region;• Educate peers and stakeholders on role of and vision for global Field Medical and the standards being implemented;• Leads a team of Field Medical representatives from the affiliates to foster exchange, strengthen communication, driving the implementation of standards and new initiatives and to allow collecting affiliate needs and input.
Qualifications
Required Education and Background:• Doctoral Degree (e.g., MD, PhD, or PharmD)• Medical Science Liaison (MSL) experience in the biopharmaceuticals industry (>5 years)• Field team management experience• Experience in the assigned region• Experience creating field medical training, medical communication and stakeholder engagement resources• Demonstrated ability to create, interpret and execute strategy • Demonstrated experience and success in cross-functional leadership and teamwork • Strong communication and influencing skills• Demonstrated project management experience
Required Experience and Skills:• Experience working on global initiatives• Worked in a regional role before• Additional background in another GMAC functional area (e.g. Medical Operations, Medical Information)• Basic understanding of MSD’s Commercial Material Systems & Processes• Experience interacting with senior leadership
