Lead Buyer

Job summary:

The Lead Buyer has to manage a spend of about 30 MM CHF of parts used at different Datwyler Sealing Solutions (DSS) manufacturing sites.

Materials in scope are mainly metal parts (stamping/turning) that are bonded with rubber. The components DSS offers to their customers are used for brake systems and fuel & powertrain systems.

Parts are used at our manufacturing sites in Czech Republic, Switzerland, China, South-Korea, Germany, Mexico and Brazil.

Main target of this function is to see to it that short and long term availability of the materials in scope is guaranteed at best economic conditions. Hereto the Lead Buyer shall establish a competitive supplier base, meeting quality requirements, in all relevant geographical regions across the globe.

Your tasks:

• Main contact with suppliers for relevant Datwyler Sealing Solutions sites.


• Contract negotiation (Source to Contract) and Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)


• Work out a purchasing strategy that ensures long term availability. Establish a reliable global supplier base and manage risks (e.g. through qualification of second sources).


• Coordination with and support of local procurement departments in other regions


• Share knowledge and exchange best practices.


• Launch Cost Savings ideas/projects


• Follow up market trends (a. o. steel and plastic prices), regular reporting about price evolution, savings and developments.


• Budgeting of prices and forecasting of volumes based on projected sales numbers, also in consultation with Key Account Managers


• Negotiate Tool Loan contracts with Suppliers for new projects

Your profile:

• Technical background with knowledge of turned and stamped metal parts.


• Excellent commercial feeling and commercial skills


• Very good interpersonal, oral, writing and presentation skills, as well as analytical and problem solving skills


• Ability to partner with Engineering, Quality, R&D, supply chain and operations in order to promote the value of the procurement organization


• Forward thinking, self-directed, capable of taking independent actions, and ability to make decisions that drive business performance


• Knowledge of ISO TS 16949 and/or experience within the Automotive market is a plus


• Very good communication skills


• Excellent knowledge of English both orally and in writing. Knowledge of German is a plus
