ePowertrain Functional Safety Engineer (f/m)


As a member of the Functional Safety Team in the Electrified Powertrain Engineering division of FPT
Industrial, you will be part of a highly skilled team driven to design and engineer best-in-class electrical
systems and architectures for FPT Industrial electrified powertrain product portfolio. The Powertrain
Functional Safety Engineer will be involved with the development of the current and future requirements
for Functional Safety (ISO 26262). This will include ePowertrain system, electric machines, power
electronics, battery and fuel cell systems and their controls. You will work in a collaborative team
environment.


You will be responsible from performing functional safety analyses and executing related tasks for FPT
Industrial ePowertrain component and systems. This includes performing component, system and
vehicle level hardware and software analysis to identify potential safety impacts, developing safety
requirements and supporting other relevant activities. Some of the specific activities include
development of Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) for features via hazard analysis, safety plans,
safety cases, and other ISO 26262 work products. In addition, the engineer will interface with other
vehicle teams and suppliers. The candidate must have the desire and aptitude to learn new processes and
technologies.


Your tasks



  • Perform, support and/or manage the execution of System Safety tasks

  • Develop safety concept and safety program plan

  • Develop safety requirements and traceability

  • Support validation and verification team in DVP development and execution

  • Safety Case development

  • Participate in design discussions to ensure that the safety requirements are implemented and adequate

  • Support design activities

  • Support both in house and supplier lead development

  • Support product development as member of cross functional team

  • Review supplier functional safety deliverables to assure FPT Industrial requirements are supported

  • Participate or Lead safety reviews of functional safety process work products

  • Coach engineering teams on functional safety process

  • Actively participate in functional safety workgroups, as assigned, to support development or
    improvement in processes


Your profile



  • You have a university degree in electrical, electronic or mechatronic engineering, few years of
    experience in a similar role

  • 2 years of experience related to this position is required; 5years of experience is a plus

  • Must have experience in the functional safety development process according to ISO 26262

  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 and VDA industry standards is preferred as well as related safety standards
    such as IEC 61508, ISO25119- ISO13849 - ISO15998

  • Effective project management, organizational, and teamwork skills are required

  • Knowledge and ability to utilize tools related to safety development is required (e.g. FMEA, FTA,
    etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability in interpreting and assessing complex vehicle systems and architectures in
    regard to safety is required

  • The ability to interpret Matlab/Simulink models and C/C++ is preferred

  • Skilled in leading and contributing to DFMEA, FTA, DFMEDA and similar practices

  • Prior experience on ePowertrain high voltage component and system functional safety is a plus

  • Strong vehicle electronic systems knowledge

  • Professional communication skills to be able to present and interact with cross functional engineering
    teams

  • You have good English skills (spoken and written), German and Italian skills would be an asset –
    Arbon/Turin

  • You are a highly motivated self-starter and team-player with very good communication skills
