As our new intern, you will work in our Protein Science group on gene delivery. You will support your mentor in his project on several exploratory aspects. In more detail, you will set up and optimize protein purification strategies by working together with Scientists from the Lead Discovery Department and get an insight into various aspects of targeted nucleic acid delivery. Thorough characterization of the purified proteins capable to transfer nucleic acids specifically into the cells of interest is the basis and key for this interdisciplinary discovery project. A broad spectrum of methods will be used starting from recombinant protein expression, chromatographic methods for purification (e.g. SEC, IEX), analytical methods (e.g. HPLC, MALS) to biophysical methods and cellular assays to characterize proteins for nucleic acid delivery.
Your work environment is our Headquarters Site in Basel/Kaiseraugst, with Basel being your primary work location. As our Site is located in the middle of Basel city, this allows for a very easy commute to work. On this site, we experience the thrill and enrichment of engaging with over 100 different nationalities, different languages, a variety of professionals across all Roche divisions and professions, and a huge network of other interns, PhD students, postdocs, and of course scientists - all of this on a daily basis!
You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.
You consider yourself a hardworking and enthusiastic master student in the area of biochemistry or related fields with a good knowledge in protein purification & characterization? Are you highly motivated, passionate about a multidisciplinary and multinational environment and you have already gained some laboratory experience.
The preferred start date of the internship is September 2019. If you seek an alternative start date, please clearly indicate this on your motivation letter. Your application needs to include a CV and a motivation letter, both merged in one PDF document.
