Why we are recruitingThe Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP) is a global public-private delivery mechanism that aims to tackle one of the world’s most pressing challenges – plastic pollution of rivers, deltas and the ocean. By engaging with governments, regional bodies, international organizations and business, as well as innovators and civil society organizations, the GPAP seeks to avert the growth in global plastic pollution by 2025. In collaboration with GPAP members, the Forum is seeking to recruit an Operational Project Lead. We are looking for a fast-paced strategic thinker and networker who will oversee and manage the operational requirements of the GPAP. The Operational Project Lead will be appointed on a two-year fixed term contract with the possibility of a third-year extension. To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate a passion for building efficiency tools, managing timelines, grants, budgets and reporting, and engaging with internal and external partners on memorandums of understanding, grants and reports. You will have experience building tracking tools, timelines and creating project efficiency tools for the broader team. Reporting lines and interactionsThe position will be based in Geneva at the World Economic Forum within the Global Plastic Action Partnership team and will report to the GPAP Director. Internally, this person will work with GPAP colleagues and the broader Centre for Global Public Goods and others within the Forum, as well as externally with a broad range of stakeholders, including Partner companies in the consumer goods, retail, chemical, finance and other industries, governments and multilateral and non-governmental organizations. Main responsibilities• Lead on operations and grant management, monitoring and reporting, and updating GPAP donors• Drive creation and reporting of impact measurements; use data to optimize processes, creatively solve problems and track impact results that add to the value proposition for the GPAP• Manage all business enquiries, grant submissions and contracts with GPAP partners• Support the GPAP Director in the development and implementation of new processes and mechanisms• Build and maintain a highly efficient resource planning and scheduling process• Work with the internal financial reporting team to ensure budgetary needs are managed appropriately• Manage urgent projects, prioritize tasks and overcome obstacles that come your way The successful candidate will be assessed on• The ability to develop, create and improve systems, structures and processes• Resource planning, processes creation and experience managing projects, setting timelines and setting priorities for efficient delivery• Experience solving complex problems and exercising good judgement in decision-making• Being an excellent communicator capable of motivating a team, working cross-functionally and liaising with external stakeholders as needed• Strong attention to detail and an innate desire to craft process improvements to help a broader team/project Preferred requirements and experience• Master’s degree or equivalent in business strategy, economics, resource management, sustainability, or finance• A minimum of 7-10 years’ professional project management or similar experience in a relevant business or not-for-profit organization, including consulting or academia; experience in the environment, natural resources, agriculture and food industry is an asset• Experience in donor grant and programme management and process creation• Proven understanding of the issue of marine plastic pollution, including in-depth knowledge of global plastics supply chains, impacts of plastics on the environment (particularly the marine environment), waste management, related legislation and the political landscape in which this issue currently sits• Strong problem-solving, analytical and synthesizing skills, and the ability to communicate complex information succinctly• Service-oriented team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills• Willing to work in a highly demanding environment and ready to juggle multiple priorities• Prepared for extensive travel, including in developing countries• Fluency in English; working knowledge of French, Spanish and/or Portuguese would be an asset• Knowledge and experience in costumer relations management, including the use of CRM software like Salesforce would be an asset Why work at the ForumWe believe that progress happens by bringing together people from all walks of life who have the drive and the influence to improve the state of the world by building awareness and cooperation, shaping mindsets and agendas and driving collective action.
