We support life science research with state of the art technologies for genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics as well as by high-end bioinformatics analysis. The successful applicant will be part of the genomics/transcriptomics team that develops, implements and offers the latest next generation (NGS) and single molecule sequencing methods and strategies, and provides services and training to the research groups accessing the newly established Genome Engineering and Measurement Laboratory (GEML) of FGCZ and the Department of Biology of ETH Zurich at the ETHZ Hönggerberg campus. The position offers a challenging opportunity to step into a growing and rapidly evolving technology field and to join a team of highly motivated professionals. The responsibilities of the position include sample quality control, sequencing library preparation, and the operation and maintenance of robots (Beckman FX and the Hamilton robotic systems) for sample preparation and latest-generation Illumina sequencers of the NGS Services. Included is also assisting researchers performing genomics and transcriptomics analyses in the FGCZ User Lab/GEML in cooperation with the responsible FGCZ experts. The applicant is expected to autonomously carry out routine lab work, daily maintenance, and infrastructure support of the technologies. The ideal candidate should have a formal training as laboratory technician or demonstrate an equivalent qualification. The candidate must have practical experience in working in a research or diagnostic laboratory. The successful candidate should be highly flexible, organized, possess good interpersonal communication skills and demonstrate an ability to work with research and technical staff in a team-oriented manner. Experience working with a LIMS system is a plus. Advanced knowledge of English is essential, as this is the working language of the center.
