Senior Research Engineer 100%



In this position you will become a subject matter expert in biomechanics and mechanical device performance. You will play a key role in solving challenging R&D problems in support of the various departments required to design and manufacture safe and effective orthopaedic  medical devices & associated technology.


Your main responsibilities:


  • Leading biomechanical research projects to support the design of safe and effective orthopedic medical devices & associated technology.

  • Performing all phases of design verification of device mechanical performance, from formulating study protocols and developing test & simulation methods through testing, analyzing data, and documenting results.

  • Maintaining a strong working relationship with internal partners (e.g. product development, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and other research groups) on matters pertaining to job duties and other business related issues.

  • Maintaining communication with external partners (e.g. surgeons, vendors and independent research groups) on matters pertaining to job duties and other business related issues.

  • Creating processes and work instructions to ensure a high level of control over testing methods and a high confidence in results (test method validation).

  • Monitoring the technical and medical literature for advances relevant to job function and contributing with congresses and journal submissions.



Your Qualifications and Experience:


  • BS+MS degrees in mechanical engineering, or other closely related discipline. Preferred: Ph.D. in orthopedic biomechanics or closely related field with specific knowledge of any of the following (joint kinematics & kinetics, primary stability, fatigue, fretting/corrosion).

  • 2-10 years of industry experience with the ability to apply engineering principles in a business environment and manage multidisciplinary projects. Preferred: >5 years of experience in the medical device industry

  • Experience with quality systems, design control, and risk analysis.

  • Deep understanding of solid mechanics.

  • Good analytical skills and problem-solving ability, a strong sense of initiative, follow-through and attention to detail

  • Superior communication skills (report writing, presentations), teamwork and organizational skills.

  • Experience with Matlab or other data analysis tools, Unigraphics or other CAD packages, FEA software

  • Proficiency with common office software tools: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat

  • Fluency in English (written & spoken), proficiency in German is an asset

  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with mechanical testing, experimental design, data analysis and statistics

  • Preferred: Experience working in a laboratory environment and with validation of equipment and test methods

  • Preferred: Familiarity with regulations for medical devices (e.g. EU MDR, 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, ISO 1497)
