Upper School Learning Support - Individualized Program

The Learning Support teacher works collaboratively with the Upper School Student Support Team and Faculty developing individualized pathways for students who are unable to meet the academic requirements needed to be awarded a ZIS diploma. 


Responsibilities



  • acts as the primary learning coordinator for and case manages a small group of students

  • supports teachers with modification, accommodation and  differentiated strategies in the mainstream classroom settings

  • formally develops and assesses specific academic areas in platforms such as ASDAN and ALEKS

  • develops and implements IEP‘s in conjunction with the other specialists and teachers

  • meets with parents, teachers, and specialists to review student progress

  • coordinates ZIS resources with external resources when required

  • keeps up-to-date on curriculum developments and trends in the field of specialized learning

  • coordinates work experience/life skills opportunities for students in the community

  • provides professional development to mainstream teachers in the areas of Autism, Pervasive Learning Disabilities, Language Processing Disorders and teaching for severely learning disabled students

  • reviews the applications of new students who might need extended support


Qualifications



  • Masters in Special Education

  • Experience with inclusionary High School Program

  • Integration of technology into curriculum

  • Learner-centered focus

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

  • Ability to differentiate for diverse learning needs

  • Teamwork, collaboration, and active participation in school life
