ABOUT VIU

VIU is a young and innovative eyewear label from Switzerland. We have set out to revolutionize the market for designer eyewear with our direct-to-consumer business model. Cutting out middle men we are able to combine highest quality with fair prices. VIU glasses are designed in Zurich and handmade in Italy and Japan. We offer a unique customer experience in more than 40 flagship stores across Switzerland, Germany, Austria, UK & Scandinavia as well as our online store. Our main office locations are Zurich and Munich.

THE JOB

To enable our data science and analysts with a state of the art data architecture we are looking for a data engineer with the skill-set to help us build up and further improve our data management and analytics tools and platforms. The aim is to provide clean, usable data to whomever may require it within VIU. Are you looking for a data engineering job in a fast-growing company with a vision? Start: immediate or by agreement

YOUR TASKS

• Design, construct, install, test and maintain highly scalable data management systems


• Ensure systems meet business requirements and industry practices


• Build high-performance algorithms, prototypes, predictive models and proof of concepts


• Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data


• Develop data set processes for data modeling, mining and production


• Integrate new data management technologies and software engineering tools into existing structures


• Create custom software components (e.g. specialized UDFs) and analytics applications


• Install and update disaster recovery procedures


• Recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality


• Actively help shaping our engineering culture

YOUR PROFILE

• BSc or MSc in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field


• Tenacious, investigative, and curious personality


• Real passion for collaboration and strong interpersonal skills


• SQL-based technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL and MySQL)


• MatLab, SAS, R


• Experience with different data warehousing solutions


• Experience with functional, imperative and object- oriented languages; knowledge of Ruby, Python and/or Elixir would be especially useful


• Strong grasp of database structure, design, query languages (e.g. SQL)


• Being technology/language agnostic, willingness to use different languages


• Business-fluent in English (orally and in writing). German is a plus


• Valid working permission for the EU or Switzerland
