Director Global Research


Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:



  • Leadership responsibility for 2 or 3 groups (approx. 20 people) in Research Bern, including day-to-day personnel management, recruitment and development activities.

  • As a member of the Bern Research Leadership Team contribute to definition, implementation and execution of research strategy for Research Bern in alignment with global R&D and corporate strategy and with particular focus on specific therapeutic areas.

  • Contribute to the development and management of external research activities with local academic, start-up and industry partners in the frame of sitem-insel in current or new therapeutic areas (focus on Immunology and Respiratory).

  • In close collaboration and alignment with other CSL sites foster a collaborative environment and provide strategic, scientific and operational guidance to global Research and Development projects.

  • Contribute to documents for global regulatory submissions and partnering activities as required.

  • Provide input to CSLB Strategy&Business Development Legal and IP departments to support contract negotiations and patents as required.

  • Comply with applicable quality standards for R&D. Support maintenance of QM systems applicable to Research Bern.


Qualifications & Experience:



  • PhD or equivalent in, molecular biology, biotechnology, cellular/molecular immunology and/or respiratory.

  • 5-10 years’ experience with a strong track record in relevant scientific / technical disciplines described above.

  • Experience in an industry environment managing innovative research with a focus on cross-functional collaboration.

  • Experience with the selection of new project opportunities and the management of projects as they progress through the research phase and into product (including process development and manufacturing scale-up) and clinical development.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

  • Experience in leading teams in strategy efforts and assessments of probability-of-success.

  • Demonstrated experience in driving initiatives across functions, research and development units to create fully integrated strategies.

  • Excellent organizational, leadership experience and demonstrated change agent.
