About the job

We are looking for a Protection Engineer covering a temporary Freelancer position in Nairobi/Kenya (till September 2019): 

Your tasks:

• Witness tests for the protection panels including relays, BCU, A/R and also witness test for functional tests.


• Witness tests for LVAC and LVDC systems


• Witness tests for the outdoor equipment including CB, CT, CVT, DS,ES and LA


• Witness test for control and protection panels and circuits including protection relays, BCU, metering, functional tests, logic test, etc.


• Preparation of technical report for the problems are facing during the test & commissioning works. The technical report should contain the technical proposal/ recommendation of protection engineer as per his experience and also as per the practice and client’s requirement in Kenya.


• Preparation of daily activity and also weekly report


• Attending at any required meeting at the site or Client/Contractor office to discuss and resolve the problems on test & commissioning activities.


• Liaise and proper communication with Client and Contractor to discuss /report/resolve the issues about the control/protection/test & commissioning works   

Who are you?

General Requirement

• Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University   


• 15 years’ experience in electrical power systems                       


• 10 Years’ Experience in protection, control and substation automation design


• 10 Years’ Experience in testing and commissioning of 220kV and above Substations


• 1 project in Sub-Saharan African countries will be as advantage


• Fluency in English, good in speaking and writing       

Technical Requirement

• Review and approval of control & protection design documents including SLDs, schematic drawings, signal list, interlocking and logic diagram, etc.


• Well familiar with communication drawings and testing and commissioning activities


• Well familiar with the protection setting calculations to review the setting calculation.


• Well familiar with shutdown activities to review the shutdown plan/book


• Well familiar with Substation Automation System(SAS) and witnessing tests for SAS
