Technical Writer for the Fiber Optics Testing Laboratory (6 Months Temporary)

Your tasks
The FO Testing Laboratory supports the internal testing for all the FO Divisions and Business Units (BUs) including Product and Project Development, Quality, Qualification and Requalification, among others. In 2018 alone, the FO Laboratory generated 665 test reports on a wide range of experiments, from optical, optical-mechanical, optical-thermal and destructive tests, all in conformance with international standards such as ISO, IEC and Telcordia, among others. Every test report is the compilation of the work generated by each of our laboratory professionals. These test reports represent the quality of our work in front of our clients.
In this challenging function, you will be responsible for the processing of the test results and the formatting of the test reports that need to be generated after each test is completed. You will then follow up with our internal customers for the release of these test reports into our report database. It is your task to conduct technical discussions with internal customers, to discuss and align technical details and requirements of the tests, and to clarify these details with the Standardization Manager. As part of the FO Laboratory, your contribution to the group will drive further the quality and performance of the laboratory with a “Continuous Improvement” mentality.
The FO Testing Laboratory works closely together with the Standardization Manager to ensure that all tests are conducted per the latest revision of norms, and that test reports also fulfill the norms and the requirements from our clients. You will need to become very knowledgeable in a wide variety of standards and norms, most of them written in English.

We are in the search for a personality with a “think outside of the box” mindset. You feel comfortable performing the standard formatting functions in Microsoft Word, and the basic functions of data processing in Microsoft Excel. Having a technical background is certainly appreciated. You bring experience in writing technical reports in a professional fashion. You feel comfortable maintaining a continuous line of communication with the internal customers, the same as with your colleagues at the testing facilities, as planning and resourcing are constantly adjusted as needed. You also feel comfortable receiving feedback about the test reports, and to implement this feedback into your work.
In addition, you have also a strong communication ability and natural assertiveness. German language skills are required for the day-to-day work. English skills are required for interpretation of the norms and the compiling of the test reports.
