Your responsibilities



  • In this exciting role as Principal Engineer Infrastructure (80-100%), you will be responsible for the engineering of the IT infrastructure at the site and in the Swissgrid data centres, whereby you will be guided by current architecture principles as well as cyber-security guidelines

  • As the person with the highest level of expertise in the area of IT infrastructure, you will not only contribute specialist knowledge to the further development of the division, but will also be involved in important decisions in an advisory capacity

  • In this role, you will manage line and technology projects spanning different teams in the area of IT infrastructure

  • You will be responsible for ensuring flawless and economical solutions using modern, tried-and-tested technologies, whereby a large proportion of the systems serve applications that are critical to supply and thus are subject to the highest demands in terms of security and availability

  • You will guarantee that standards, studies and requirement specifications are addressed and that preliminary projects, technology pilots, etc. are executed

  • You will be responsible for the creation of strategies and system architectures in the area of data centre infrastructure, particularly network, server, storage, database, output and security components, as well as ICT end devices for the company

  • In this position, you will also support the colleagues who are responsible for operations with incident, problem and knowledge management

  • You will ensure the ongoing improvement of processes and solutions as part of a continual improvement process (CIP)

  • You will represent Swissgrid in matters of IT infrastructure in specialist groups and vis-a-vis partners and suppliers

  • Last but not least, for this challenging role you will be working in a dynamic team in the immediate vicinity of Aarau railway station


Your Profile



  • You have a master’s degree in IT or an equivalent qualification

  • You have many years of experience in the engineering of complex and high-availability IT infrastructure (data centre, network, server, storage, database, output and security components, and end devices) for critical infrastructures

  • Many years of experience in the use and engineering of cloud services such as PaaS, IaaS and SaaS are required for this role

  • You have many years of experience in the operation of IT infrastructures and support organisations like ServiceDesk & Operations Bridge

  • A very good understanding of the tasks and success factors in the engineering of IT infrastructures is a must

  • For this demanding role, we are looking for a motivated person with notable analytical skills and a target-oriented way of working

  • You are able to clearly structure complex circumstances and find a way of discussing and presenting technology issues that is suited to management

  • Good knowledge of the ITIL processes Service Design and Service Strategy is a huge advantage

  • With the ability to get things done and a can-do mentality, you achieve objectives on time and to the required level of quality and have a significant capacity for empathy and cooperation

  • You also speak fluent German and/or English, while additional knowledge of French is an advantage
