This position is initially limited to six years with the aim of achieving a Habilitation.

The Central Diagnostic Laboratory of the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland, invites applications for a full-time combined clinical and research position as:


We are a state-of-the-art equipped laboratory within the University teaching hospital. Our services include hematology, biochemistry, cytology, urinalysis, blood gas analyses, hemostasis and electrophoresis. Much of our work is from referred patients in the small animal, farm animal and equine clinics, but we also receive first opinion samples from private veterinarians, providing a varied and interesting workload. We interact intensively with our clinical colleagues in the hospital and with our radiologist and anatomic pathologist colleagues, allowing for excellent feedback and discussion of cases.

TasksClinical responsibilities (50%) include interpretation and validation of clinical pathology results, participation in the development and implementation of service and teaching programs, consultations with clinicians and private veterinarians, teaching of students, and participating in clinical pathology rounds for internal medicine interns and residents. The candidate should have a passion for clinical research and either have their own active research program or work collaboratively in one of the department's current research areas. The candidate is expected to dedicate the remaining 50% of their time to research, resulting in international peer-reviewed publications with the aim of achieving a Habilitation within a six-year period.RequirementsThe applicant should be board-certified in veterinary clinical pathology (ECVCP/ACVP). Two or three years of post-residency experience in diagnostic clinical pathology and a PhD are preferred but not required. Both teaching and research experience in the field of veterinary clinical pathology are desirable but not essential.
